Sorry if a dupe, but B-25?
« on: March 27, 2006, 11:15:18 AM »
Sorry if this is a dupe on this forum, but I was wondering why the 25 isn't an available plane.  It was ubiquitous in all theaters, very flexible in missions and a great plane over all (but a pain to land).

Are there plans to add this plane?

Thanks!

It is a duplicate, but don't be sorry.  The B-25 is one of the more-missed aircraft in the game for a lot of folks.  And welcome to AH and to the boards!

As to why it isn't here, best answer I can come up with is this. . . As with any game, AH had to begin somewhere.  It started with representative samples, and has built upon them and filled in gaps as time goes on.

So, right now there is no B-25.  There is a B-26, which is a "representative sample" of the "two-engined American medium bomber."  There is an A-20, which is a "representative sample" of the "two-engined American gunship (attack-bomber)."

With both the American twin-engined attack and twin-engined bombers "covered", not to mention the German Ju-88, Japanese Ki-67 and British Bostons (the last being a variant of the A-20), the B-25 has simply been low on the priority list.

I am sure HiTech will get to it eventually.  Just know that fighters receive much higher priority, and there are a few other gaps in the plane set that are IMO more significant that will probably be filled first.  So the wait will likely be a (very) long one.

E25280:

Thanks for the zippy reply.

I'm evaluating online sims to see which to get into right now, AH2 is a great game, aside from some of its quirks (maps being one to me).

I was a squad leader in Air Warrior many moons ago, before they got bought by EA and ruined.  I loved that game, it was awesome.  I still use my sidewinder.

The flight models are awesome here, so is the development that has gone into AH2.  I've been fooling around with Warbirds as well but it's looking like AH for me, especially seeing how few people play WB anymore.

Thanks again and see you in the air.

Just FYI -- use the search function.  Type "created both" as search words and "HiTech" in the search by user name box.  The thread that will probably be on top is one entitled "Difference between Aces High and Warbirds" by Tangogulf.  The last post as of this writing was 1-19-06.  I believe you will find the "consumate answer" to your choice there.

I would post a link, but apparently I do not have those priviledges -- or else am too stupid to know how.  I suspect the latter.  But trust me, it will be worth the read if you have any lingering doubt.

Just out of curiosity, Scotty... what is it about the maps you find quirky?

Dux,

It's just a little distracting having to flip between the clipboard map and the screen when you're flying... possibly I'm missing something about dual views...  Like I said, I'm just into the eval phase here, and I've gone through the helpfile/manual, as it were, on a cursory basis.

The one thing I do like about Warbirds (there's not much else) is the ability to superimpose the map in a transparent layer over the view.  Now that I think about it, once I'm not a n00b anymore I probably won't care about that much. I like the AH2 flight mechanics and the ingame graphics better than WB, but the clipboard menu system takes some getting used to and is a bit clunky, and the hatswitch default view settings are a pain.

That being said, it's an awesome game.  :aok
