Pyro - Re Spit LF IXe and XVI
« on: April 04, 2006, 02:16:17 PM »
Background -

As you probably know LF IXe and XVI were the same plane, all that differed was where the engine was made, US or UK.

I remembered you said OK to LF IXe skins on the XVI, but ran into a little snag -

It seems some LF IXe had the standard round rudder, others the later broad chord pointed rudder.

So I have an LF IXe that had the earlier round rudder, heres the problem -

If I put it on the F IX - Wrong engine, wrong armament, right rudder.
If I put it on the LF XVI - Right engine, right armament, wrong rudder.

Any guidence appreciated.

Got one LF IXe (had round rudder though) almost ready to go on the XVI -

That Johnsons Spit?

Hate Spits, but great looking skin :aok
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

Must be, the call sign is his initials (JEJ) -- which is what he flew under.

One other thought.  JEJ Jr was also a full span Spit not  clipped.  Not sure it wouldn't be better to put it on the FIX.  Sorry Kazaa, just a thought :)

Can't put it on the F IX -

Wrong armament.
Wrong motor.

Clipped / non clipped was ruled out as a problem/reason. As you know clipping could be done on a case by case basis at unit level.

Was just wondering about the round rudder.

I wouldn't even consider submitting it for the F IX, to me the right motor and weapons is more important that a wrong rudder.

Kazaa -
Dans profile is mid 1941 and later camo

Uppers - dark green / ocean grey uppers.
Lower - medium sea grey.
Codes, spinner and fuse band - sky type 's'.
All standard colors.

Compare to Spit I from late 1940 -
Uppers - dark green / dark earth
lowers - black / sky type 's'
Codes - med sea grey
Fuse band and spinner - sky blue
All standard colors.

Also the red on the roundels on mid 1941 and later Spits was duller than early 1941 and earlier Spits.

Found that with the materials file that controls how 'shiny' the plane will be you have to lighten the standard colors slightly as they are rendered in the game slightly darker.
So I use the standard colors then add an overall 'lightening' layer.
Without it the planes look way too dark in-game, probably due to the very light grass, trees etc ingame also.

Lot of replies so I'll ask my original question again, make it easier for you Pyro -

1) LF IXe with round rudder - On the XVI?
2) LF IXe with broad chord poitny rudder - You said on the XVI so thats OK.

Thought of another one -

LF IXc
If on the F IX - Wrong motor, no ord options.
If on the VIII - Right motor, right weapons set, wrong Mk number.

Basically I was looking at -

LF IXe - On the XVI irregardless of rudder, weapons set and motor are correct.
LF IXc - On the VIII
HF VII - On the F IX

Purely based on motor / weapons options and normal operating alts.

Thanks Pyro / Skuzzy.

So
LFIXe - XVI regardless of rudder shape.

Any thoughts on the LF IXc?
My take is it would be more appropriate on the VIII than the IX. I even believe for scenarios the VIII is going to sub for a IXc. Has already been used that way in the AvA arena.
