And that is why we have human pilots in control.

They are all alive because the pilots did their jobs.

Sounds like you can chalk one save up for TCAS!

As well as the software....

The pilots of both planes reported that their collision
warning devices went off, forcing them to take emergency

Ripsnort,
True.  It seems the screw up happened on the ground.

"The captain has turned off the seatbelt sign.."

You have to be half baked to take your seat belt off while you are on a plane, for any reason but to run to the toilet.

Well, they reported the bulk of the injuries coming from the cart that went flying through the cabin, spewing hot water and tea everywhere.  Dunno.  I keep mine locked, but that ain't no guarantee you're safe from flying objects.

i don't think having it on matters 99.99% of the time, if your going to die, your going to die, seatbelt will probably either cut you in half, or keep ya held down so ya can burn/asphyxiate (assuming you live that long)

at 30k+ catastrophic problems are lethal no matter what, if its baqd enough to need a seatbelt to hold ya down and yer that high up..yer gonna die.

Towd, no mention of politics in this thread, go away young man.

Wobble, I think Funked is talking about hitting pockets of air, or C.A.T. or in this case, a near collision.  It's much more comfortable to say "Wow, that was scary, glad I was belted!" rather than asking the flight attendant to scrape the part of your scalp off that you recently left on the  ceiling of the aircraft..

Read that the pilots told the tower of an imminent danger, then pushed the big jet into a fighterlike negative g maneuver that threw the passangers up against the roof.

Damned fine flying at any rate; they were apparently *very* close to a collision.

Just wait chaps; sooner or later, *I'll* make the software in those machines.

Anyone know where the train and bus schedules are on the net?
