I have had an ATI card for a while now. So ..

when the nividia 7800 gets here on Friday (YEAH!), what is the best way to clear out my ati 9800 pro drivers and install the nividia drivers?

1) Get driver cleaner pro (free) - http://www.drivercleaner.net/
2) Run it and remove old ATI drivers.
3) Reboot
4) Install nVidia drivers.

would I run the ati uninstall program before driver cleaner?
when do I switch out the cards? bwtn steps 3 & 4 ?

When i run drivercleaner , i always unistall everything in the add/remove programs list , then boot to safe mode , run driver cleaner , restart and install new drivers . Eagler, i would do the above , but after running driver cleaner in safe mode , shut pc off and install the card . Should be gtg after that . 38

EDIT Here is the instructions from drivercleaner's readme . I never do the nic /anti virus /steps , and have never had a problem . At step 9 i'd shut down and install the new card . hope this helps .

ATI:
1. Unplug nic card or modem from net or disconnect
2. Remove ATI driver from add/remove programs then remove the control panel from add/remove programs
3. Reboot into safe mode (F8 during boot up)
4. On reboot into safe mode WinXP SP1/SP2 will auto detect and install drivers. Just let it do its thing. If you can cancel out of the auto install hardware wizard then skip the rest and run Driver Cleaner! If you can NOT cancel out of auto detect wizard then...
5. Navigate to device manager->display adapter->uninstall and/or remove ATI display adapter but do not reboot
6. Disable any AntiVirus Software (If you don't disable is than it could give trouble)
7. Run Cab Cleaner (not needed, but recommended)
8. Run Driver Cleaner
9. Empty recycle bin and reboot
10. Install the new drivers and control panel

Unplug your puter from the power source before you put in your new card........

Instructions for proper install of video drivers.

Pick 1 driver:

Nvidea - http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp - go here and download the drivers to your desktop.

ATI - http://www.ati.com/support/drivers/....x=5&submit.y=4 - go here and download the drivers to your desktop.

Omega tweaked drivers. Recommended by Nvidea and ATI - http://www.omegadrivers.net/main.php - go here and download the drivers to your desktop.

Now get DriverCleaner:
http://www.drivercleaner.net/ - Put it on your desktop

Now install DRIVER CLEANER

Go to add and remove programs and remove all references to ATI or Nvidea VIDEO DRIVERS ONLY. Do not remove any Nvidea or Ati drivers for other hardware. As in Network cards etc. If in doubt leave it alone.

Restart in safe mode. Usually by clicking the f8 button during reboot.

DO NOT INSTALL ANYTHING if windows asks.

Run DRIVER CLEANER. Pick the appropriate filter in the scroll down box AND CLICK THE CLEAN button.

Then restart. DO NOT INSTALL ANYTHING once again. It's ok, all will be well

When you reach your desktop click on the driver you downloaded and follow prompts.

Restart..

If you have any problems read the helpfile that comes with DRIVE CLEANER.

I have always in the past just used "Add/Remove programs" to unistall the software for the old card, shut down, unplugged power, physically put in the new card, booted up the machine, cancelled any Windows XP driver search that Windows XP tries to do with the new hardware installed, then installed the latest driver for the new card. I've never run into any problems doing this going from ATI to nVidia cards.

Now can someone shed light on bios vcard settings?
I have a A8V deluxe mb with 2gb ram.
what should be the Aperature Size setting be?
how about Fast Writes? enabled or disabled
AGP 3.0 calibration cycle? enabled or disabled
DBI Output for AGP Trans - enabled or disabled?

Aperture - Try 128 and 256 (usually one will be a 'sweet spot'.) I run 128.
Fast writes - I always run disabled on newer cards.
AGP calibration - Help maintain signal timings - enable it
DBI - Reduces signal noise, so enable it.
