IO plate (shield) for motherboard missing.
« on: April 05, 2006, 02:42:49 PM »
I found and purchased an used Socket A  MOBO to replace my broken one.

It is an Abit NF7-S2, and seems to work ok.

Problem is that the back plate that protects the I/O stuff is missing, and the one I got from the old MOBO is very different.

So I wonder, is it safe to use the MOBO without the back plate?

I mean, maybe it serves some technical / electrical grounding, and I might break the MOBO or connected components if I build a PC without the IO plate?

It does not offer much mechanical support, but it does help to ground the plugs and protect them from static.

So I should not use the mobo?

Or maybe I just put a wire to ground the plugs to the chasis ?
