Any Way To Speed Up Pan View!
« on: April 07, 2006, 12:12:46 PM »
Everytime i use pan view it goes too slow this has allowed me to get shot down several times. Then when i use pan view and i padlock it won't track my target, pan view only seems to work in snap view. What do most of you guys use out there. Help i'm getting killed cause i can't look around properly!

I wouls use instant or snap view. Makes it a lot easier to track enemy and quickly check your own flight path every now and then. Also a lot easier to track multiple cons.

maximmellman,

I am assuming by your registration that you are new to the game...WELCOME!

Schatzi hit the nail on the head....use snap view to whip you right around to those positions.

If you decide that AH2 is for you then by all means take a look at the TrackIR 4.  I put off using this device for a couple of years until a squaddie ALF turned me onto it....OMG....best device in the game.  Balsy is 100% correct that your view problems will be solved.

It takes a bit of getting used to but after a week or so....WHAMMO...your SA goes up tremendously.

Good luck!

You probably just need to set up your views. There's an old saying in dogfighting. "lose sight, lose the fight".
A spilt second can be the difference between winning a fight or losing it due to a lost view.

Let me know when you;d like to meet in the training arena and we'll gert you set up.

I'm used to some success in these games but i'm getting killed, snap view only whips you around to look at certain parts of the sky whereas pan view allows you to look as if you are turning your head, which is what i use most of the time. But the pan view here is to slow which cause me to lose people., also in most other games you can be in pan view padlock a target and track them all over the place, here it just works in snap view which only allows you to see certain parts of the sky, meanwhile they hide in those blindspots and kill me!? Also in order to see where your going you have to get out of pan view and go to snap view just to snap your head forward. In most other games they have a snap to front view which can be used anywhere. Oh well guess i'll just have to get the tracker for this game cause the view options are so strict and poor maybe you can then turn your head around, look back around the seat like in real life.

which games have you flown before?

oh, and expect to die.  alot.  if you train every day and have an excellent teacher, you might be "ok" in a couple months.

STEEP learning curve.  It can take years to get "good" here.

Maxi, there is a padlock view in Aces High. Press F11 key and then TAB to select the target you want to track (hit TAB multiple times to toggle between targets).

But i seriously recommend you take Ren up on his offer. Because pan and padlock view will only help you with ONE enemy. In the MA, youll mostly get into situations where you have to track more then one enemy (and maybe a friendly as well). And Ren is a great trainer, he can surely show you a lot more then just setting your views.

If you use the "Snap" view mode, not the "Instant", you wont have immediate change of view, but kind of a fast pan to the new one.

Another thing you need to do is: Set your hatswitch so it uses 8 views, not only 4. To do this go to SETUP > CONTROLS > JOYSTICK > Stick Map. There you can assign the "Up Left" hatswitch button to Forward left view, "Up Right" to Forward right etc etc. Also youll need to map a "look up button" to your joystick or easily reachable on your keyboard. To look around, you can combine those, ie pressing "look up" and "look back" at the same time, youll get a "look back up" view.

When your done, you need to set up all head positions for EVERY view (theres 17 of them ;)). Move your head around with the arrow keys and page up/down untill you have the best view possible, then press F10 to save head position. This has to be done for each plane seperatly.

Here is the link to the Net Aces article on how to set up views.

Side note: All those head positions will be saved in a file in your HTC/Aces High II/Settings folder. You might want to back it up every once in a while. That way, if you ever need to reinstall AH, you wont have to do it all over again.

PS: The view system in AH is actually one of the best. You just need to set it up. I dont have trackIR and i do just fine with an 8-way head switch and "look up" mapped to JS.

Yep

As was stated , it takes some getting used to. You'll have a hard time at first but if you stay with it and don't get discouraged , it will make the flying not only more realistic but more enjoyable IMO.

IF you buy it make sure to go ahead and get the expansion pack.

It's easy to install. Easy to setup really. AND , there are prolly a few on here that would be more than happy to send you thier profiles to help you out.

I use Balsy's. He was a gentelman and sent it to me no problem. I found it better to use than what I was working on.

If you play anyother sims , NASCAR , R-Factor . GP Legends , and prolly others that I cant think of right this second , you find it even more fun. Helps driving sims greatly.

Good luck in your decision.

Might ask on this BBS if anyone has one for sale as well. I remember seeing a couple of people , dont remember names , but a couple say they didn't like it and they had them put away in a drawer or something.

Best of luck
