I will keep it short and simple.
I got a cable "modem" a few weeks ago.
My son got a computer now and wants a cable connection also (no more dial now that I switched).
The company says that they only need to assign an IP Address and he is set.
The big grey area: getting him actually connected, which is my responsibility.
The company says I'll need a 'hub' and/(or?) 'network' that will (I assume) tie our computers together into one connection into the cable 'modem'.
1) Is this too much for somone unfamiliar with hardware to try for themselves? I'm pretty smart and can follow directions, and can install cards and stuff on my computer, but this sounds daunting.
2) Any recommendations on equipment (or maybe just a list of what I will need?).
3) Is this type of hookup going to screw up my gaming? I have heard people talk of "NATS"(?) and home networks (or maybe it was just firewalls) and problems they had getting connected to games. Maybe it was firewalls, hmmm who knows.
Maybe what I should be wondering is, what does it take and how difficult is it to get two computers onto one cable connection? Anyone done this yet?
