SB Audigy SE problems
« on: April 08, 2006, 12:57:17 PM »
I decided to upgrade (slightly) my sound from internal to a SB Audigy SE. I thought this would take some of the workload off my CPU and make the game run smoother. Boy, was I wrong!

After installing the card and drivers the game is unplayable. My net status looks like a cardiac readout, my joystick (Saitek X52 USB) is unusable and the fold out page of my clipboard is spinning like a propeller.:huh

I know my system is underpowered, but it was running the game before the upgrade.

Skuzzy, help!!!

System Specs:
Dell Dimension 4600
Phoenix ROM BIOS PLUS Version 1.10 A07
Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.66GHz, ~2.7GHz
256MB RAM (I know, I've got 2g's on order)
Page File: 186MB used, 438MB available
DirectX 9.0c
NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200 (Omega 1.6177) (P)

I hope you only installed the drivers from Creative and not any of thier other programs.  If so, that is probably th culprit.

Also worth noting, the Audigy SE is a repackaged SBLive! card, if I recall.

Didi you remove the drivers and disabled the onboard sound before installing the sound card?  Bad stuff happens when you do not do this.

Great, I didn't remove the drivers, but I did disable the soundchip. Sounds like I have to uninstall then reinstall without the onboard drivers present.

Hmm, that didn't work either. Wound up ripping the little %$#* out and doing a system restore. It was the only way I could get the game to run properly.
