I was wondering why my fighter mode hit percentage was so bad, then i did a few searches in the forum and it seems that the concensus is that when in fighter mode any rounds fired that do not hit an enemy plane count as misses.
Now I know why my fighter hit percentage is so low, because i will often de-ack a field or shoot down buildings in a town during a base capture attempt, even though i am scoring my sortie in fighter mode and not attack mode.
I understand why HiTech would not want hits on ground objects to count toward Hit% when in fighter mode. And i agree with that or anyone could easily just inflate thier Fighter Hit% by shooting at buildings all day.
At the same time I do not think that we should be penalized when in Fighter sortie mode for being team players and de-acking fields and helping knock the town down.
What i would sugest is that the hit percentage formula when scoring a sortie as a fighter be modified as follows:
Current formula = ( rounds that hit enemy planes) / ( total bullets fired )
I would like to see the new formula become
New formula = ( rounds that hit enemy planes ) / ( total bullets fired - rounds that hit ground objects )
With the new formula hitting enemy ground objects will not increase your fighter Hit% score, but it also will not decrease it. With the new formula you can be a team player and de-ack a base and help shoot buildings and hangers down without having it negatively effect you fighter Hit%.
The way the formula is now it is a catch 22 when you are in fghter mode, you want to help your side capture the base by shooting down buildings and hangers, but you know if you do it that your fighter Hit% goes down the tubes. By using a modified formula like I suggest above this dilema is eliminated and the Fighter Hit% (enemy plane) will still reflect acurate numbers.
