firing turrets on runway

Or perhaps people should just stop thinking that there's a safe way to up from a field that is already overrun by enemy forces. The field defenses are dead, VH is down, GVs are scarce, and the skies are full of red icons - and yet, you still want some way to fight back a battle that is clearly, already lost?

Think from the attacker's point of view. Sometimes they have it easy by relying on the mindless horde and their lackeys. But other times, base suppression/captures are a result of well-laid planning and excellent skill. They work their prettythang off to subdue an enemy field with minimal amount of pilots.. and then bam! - the tards start rolling insta-field acks by upping buffs on the runway. 20x .50 barrels just popping up from nowhere via one buff formation... with just two tards resorting to that kind of 'defense' with two bomber formations they gain access to some forty .50 guns that are much tougher in durability than the average field ack.

 That's lame.

That's why it went the way of the dodo in AH.

Did I say ANYTHING about upping at a capped field? NO. I said PERHAPS your guns should remain live after you land if you've been in flight for some time, in order to prevent  a vulcher from killing you as you land, since a bomber has to set up a landing a long way out and is mostly committed. So if you return from a bombing mission and some clown has stalked you out of sight to vulch and then dives in at the last minute he doesn't get a FREE kill, but at least has to face  the guns.

Because of the advantages afforded to bombers ( 3 plane box otto guns that fire where you do) they were turned off when on the ground to prevent them being used as flack (as had been done earlier).

If you are NOT leaving a capped field it makes no difference if they are on or off.  If you are being vulched on take off (even by a single plane) I say the base is capped and the attacker has the ack to contend with (if alone it is unlikely he has taken out all the ack), if it is more than a single plane then the base is capped.

The same arguements apply to landing since the buff guns are NOT off till you are on the ground.
