Stock versus stock, Rubicon will walk over anything else being sold today. I can't think of another vehicle being sold today that comes stock with locking diffs and solid axles.

If you're interested, here's a review of the H3, Jeep Laredo, Xterra, and FJ Cruiser. The FJ lost.

I've been on the Mengal Pass Trail with my 2000 X. It's a fun ride. :)

Good review, I had heard the new Xterra was pretty decent off road.   The H3 got a better review then I thought it would, I figured it would be better on road then off, but it does not suprise me in the least it is gutless.

Even they thought the FJ looked like Rav4, but they left out the dike part lol :D

The part that I wondered about in the review of the new Xterra is how they panned the 2000-20001 models.

Hell... it got Motor Trend SUV of the year in 2000, but according to Car & Driver, it's crap.

Me to, having wheeled with one a bunch, it seems pretty good, (other then alternator possition.) Plus I like the old designs looks MUCH better then the new one.  The new one looks like an old one that ate a Geo metro and got fat.

I didn't like the look of the 2nd gen Xterra at first, but now it's starting to grow on me.

I do dislike the fact that the transfer case is controlled electronically.

Yeah but is the alternator still mounted on the bottom front of the engine where only a small left handed asian man could get a wrench on the bolts?

Then he gets 2 swift kicks, one for each nut!!

He needs to get a big fat white dude to help him with bolt placement.

For a smaller 4wd I've always been partial to the Isuzu Vehicross:

Although its not available in diesel. But Like Isuzu's, their designs are rugged, very functional, good drives and nothing wanky thats going to break easily.

Those are cool but rare in around here, never seen one off road, but I remeber hearing about it when it came out and how it was supposed to be pretty good.

Thats the other way around, Hummer stole the grill from Jeep, there was even a law suite about it. (I think Jeep lost though)
