On the subject of headons, I think most are the plane running to you guns blazing, but there are others that just seem to happen during a fight. It seems guys that fly planes good at the rope P38, 109s, eventually force the other plane to try for the headon as a last chance. Thats when the high plane has roped the lower, and comes down to get the shot, but the lower guy saved just enough E to get his nose up one last time.
The P38 Osprey hangs like a mf and it always seems to have 3 seconds more hangtime than you hoped it did. When I get in that position, I take the shot, hoping to atleast hit the pilot or engine and send the guy home. During fights, after a merge, I feel all HO restrictions have expired.
