Windows not loading Nvidia IDE driver.

Hi,

Today I assembled my ABIT NF7-S2 pc into my Lanboy chasis.
I have been running the mobo on my table, while I waited for a io-shield plate.

Well I put everyting in, and BANG windows does not boot. So I try safe mode, nope no go. It stops afer the last safe mode text mode driver output. I remove all cards and optical drives. Does not help :(

So I re-install XP. All seems to work again, untill I install Nvidia chipset drivers.

Windows will not boot.

I narrow it down to the IDE driver. If I do not install that, then the XP will boot.

Question is. Why did my PC sudenly not boot ? It worded OK before I assembled it into the chasis. I might have diffe:rent IDE cable, but I tried 2 different cables, with same result :(

Can this be an indicattion, of hardware problems, is there known issues with nvidia force 2 ide drivers ?

Nvidiot IDE driver are crappy I've never been able to burn a DVD with this ù*^$^ driver, when stock microsoft work fine.

Add to this the USB 2.0 peripheral limited to the 1.1 speed for unknown reason ,crackling sound,crappy onboard firewall .

I think I'll never get a nvidicrap mobo again.

So far I got a 72€ asrock instead of the expensive ASUS and it work !

There are a few benchmarks out there that show the Nvidia IDE drivers VS the microsoft standard IDE drives . They performed almost identical.  Its not worth the headache IMHO.
 If your running a STANDARD PC HAL instead of an ACPI HAL the NV IDE drivers will not install . I would check your bios ACPI settings and see if its disabled or not . If you did a regular XP install ,XP defaults to the ACPI HAL , You have to hit F5 at the install start screen to install the standard pc HAL , so odds are your running acpi .

Oh no, I give up.

Problems just escalate over here :cry

See, first I notice that when I right click the desktop explorer.exe crashes.

Then after a few reboots, I get error that "IDE DEVICE BOOT ERROR" or sumthing like that.

So I try to boot from CD-ROM, and it does not work.

This is the third MOBO I have bought. Now I am throwing EVERY equipment away, and have to buy a whole new system.

Im getting rid of cpu, ram, vidcard, coolers, fans, mouse, keyboard, display, cables, soundcard.

All is gone, even the freeking XP home license and the chasis.

Im going dell or sumting :mad:

Three weeks and 100€ down the drain. Perkele !

No, only XP + drivers + AH2.

Have been re-installing XP 30-40 times during last 3 weeks.

I dont know what keeps breaking the MOBO. Me maybe?

It not a virus because when the PC today stopped to work, it would not boot even from CD-ROM, even if I disconected the HD.

So in stead of pooring more money on a broken PC, I am now looking to buy a whole new system.

Before buying everything new, go through standard fault elimination process. Boot up the computer totally stripped. Then add hardware one by one untill it refuses to boot. If you have only one harddrive that may well be the culprit. Even if you boot from cd it will use hd too.

Try a different CD-ROM drive.  If  you dont have one, try taking it out.  I've had issues before where certain makes of older CD-ROM drives will cause all sorts of assorted problems.

Yeah I stripped it down. Even swapped to a PCI vid card and booted with only the CD-ROM connected (dissconnected the hd).

Also tried to boot with HD only, no go.

The old PC is now in the trash bin, and I am using my 5 year old computer now, trying to figure out what to buy.

I would like to buy Dell with on-site guarantee, but in Finland they dont seem to sell any good gameing system. Well they have one, but it has GF 7800 vid card. Dont know if it is a good idea to pay for that now, when the new cards are out.

Then there is not many other options. There is a cheep HP with GF 6600 and AMD 64 3400. It cost 1/2 what the Dell would, but is maybe not fast enough ?

Maybe I have to buy a clone, but I would like to have good waranty....

If youre finnish for ****s sake dont buy brand computer!! Go to http://www.jimmspc-store.fi for example and have them custom build a box for you.

Well maybe, but I worry about the quality & waranty.

One of the MOBO's that is broken, worked fine at the dealer. Maybe they had a cpu that did not stress the MOBO or they were using SATA. I dont know. But at home, if I copied a file from C: to C:, and did a FC file compare, the files were not equal ! But same disk worked normaly in my other pc. So yes the MOBO was broken. Still had to pay the dealer 28€ for "un-nessesary waranty work". So I eneded up paying extra for a broken MOBO :(

Now what hapens if I buy a whole PC from a small dealer, and run into a similair problem?

Well maybe if I buy the whole system, let them install XP and all the drivers, and never add any stuff in the PC.

But I must say. It is very strange ! My options are very limited, maybe because I am "finnish for ****s sake ".

I can buy a HP or a Siemens Nixdorf. Order a Dell or then as you suggest, order a clone.

What the .... 2 brands sold in the whole country :( And as far as I can see, there is only one model that remotly is good enough for gameing.

With brand computers you get inferior components at a premium price. If you have a shop put it together for you they guarantee it'll work plain and simple.
