I bought my first brand new vehicle this last weekend.
« on: February 05, 2001, 06:16:00 PM »
On Sunday I bought a 2001 Toyota Tundra SR5 Access Cab  , V8   (all my previous vehicles have been 4 cylinders), 4 wheel drive  .

I know this makes me an ugly American consumer type (something that my motorcycle riding co-workers have been reminding me of as I contemplated this purchase) but its my money and   to those that have a problem with it.

I've been keeping my mom and siblings in a house and I think that it is fair that I treat myself to the vehicle that I want.

The Toyota is NICE.  I am very happy with its workmanship and its performanc so far.

I just wanted to share my enthusiasm.

Cool karnak!

Cars are el cheapo in the US, and gas too. one reason to move there (that and the 200 dollar bills)

I just fixed the flat tyre on my bike.

Then a snowstorm came in, tire froze to the ground and I popped it trying to get it moving  .

I own you

LOL StSanta.

Because it uses more fuel I'm going to be driving to the ferry landing in Marin (the county where I live, north of SF) and then taking the ferry in to San Francisco.  I'll bike from the ferry building in SF to work.

I want to do that at least 2 or 3 times a week.  I told my insurance company that I'd do it twice a week.

I need the exercise anyway.  I haven't been in anything like the shape I was in when I used a bicycle for transportation since I got a car.

Nice one Karnak.

I'm about to buy my first car (2nd hand though).

Fiat Bravo S 1.4

Used cars are dirt cheap in the UK at the moment. Which is a good thing.

I am driving a 1988 Toyota pickup I bought new.  You will not be disappointed with your Toyota.  They produce an excellent product

My sister and her husband have a 2000 Tundra.  They love it!  No problems whatsoever! Plus it is a good looking truck!

Good Luck with it!

Rock: Well that's where I got it, he's my son.
Powell: Really Rock, well I'd like to meet him.
Rock:  No ya wouldn't.

I have a 1993 Toy. I bought it used in 1995 with 40,000 miles on it. It has over 140,000 now and it still runs just as good as the day I bought it. I have a friend that has a 1988 Toy (It's like a Land Cruiser but cheeper) and it must have a minimum of 250,000 miles on the engine. I think he's replaced a water pump or two and an alternator on it is all. It's starting to get a little ragged but it's still running. I think there was a clutch in there too.

New car, new car smell, open road, Spring day!

It's a fine feeling, isn't it?

Congrats Karnak! Enjoy!

Just one thing, don't add up all your monthly payments .. it'll make you sick what it really cost you

In the past, I've taken out loans against my Investment plan, then when I pay interest, it's rolled back into my own investment plan, takes the middle man out to say the least!

Thanks guys.

Eagler, my monthly payments are less than $100.00, insurance drives that up to about $200.00 though.  I don't want to think of what I put down on it though. OUCH!!!

One thing guys (not to turn this political, but I want you guys to know where I stand), I know you know that I'm a professed Liberal, and I am, but I DO believe in capitalism.    Liberals are not a uniform block of people, we all have our personal set of beliefs.  I, for example, am not anti-gun, I am a fiscal conservative and a social and environmental liberal.

Thanks for the encouragement about my purchase.  I'm glad that some people don't have a problem with it.  You guys make me feel less guilty over the indulgence.    Kiitos.

I know that i shouldn't be asking this, but how much did your tundra cost? :-)

btw, im driving 1981 WV Jetta, which i got from my neighbour. Not too bad ride, but burns oil as much as gas...
