How about some choices for the American people with Tax refunds?
« on: February 06, 2001, 07:51:00 AM »
With all the talk of 5+ trillion dollar surplus, and 1.7 somthing trillion up for a tax refund proposal, there is still a considerable amount of Democrats that are against such a tax refund (there are quite a few for it as well!)...so, why not give the American people a choice?

Simply send out a form for those that qualify for a tax refund, have a number of Gov't institutions on the form with a box next to it to check, such as Social Security, Public Education, P.I.T.A., etc. etc. and let the Tax payer decide if he or she wants to keep the tax refund or return it to the Gov't for their disposal into the taxpayers choice that he marked on the form?

This allows the conscience-wise a choice to send their tax refunds back to the Gov't if they are against tax refunds, and allows those that may be greedy, or may NEED a tax refund to pay for their necessities (such as a Power bill) to pocket the money?

Dems and Repubs please post your civil thoughts...

Edit: The average tax refund focuses on the middle class family, giving a family of 4 making $40,000 a year, which amounts to a $1,400 tax refund.  The higher income family's get less per capita of income, the poor get more per capita of income.

LOL Rip!

You could write all the replies yourself after this long in the O-Club!

Mark me down for my annual contribution to the Childrens Hospital since that's where most of my tax refund goes when I do get a tax refund!  I'll definately pocket 50% of the cash and put it in my son's education mutual funds for their futures.  After all, seeing children that aren't so lucky do two things to a prudent person, makes them want to help those underpriviledged children and appreciate how lucky ones self is with being blessed with his own healthy children.

Edit: I started a mutual fund for both kids, when they were born...$1000 bucks to start it, $100 a month taken directly out of checking account per kid for their educ-ma-cations...to date, Geeman has $11,000 dollars and he's only 5 years old!  The best part is when I retire, I won't have to fork out big bucks for their educations!

Yep, my responsibility as a father, not the responsibility of the tax payer as it is in your highly taxed social country.

Taxed 22% here Ripsnort, with a heavily government subsidised free higher education system.

Having said that though, this is my first real job, so I expect when I'm thirty I'll be paying a little more tax.
