This is the "base" or start I am now considering.

Is the ASUS A8N-E ok choise? I want quality

Any comments suggestions ?

- ASUS A8N-E
- AMD64 3000+
- 2x512MB PC3200 DDR400MHz
- WD Caviar SE WD2500JS (250 Gt, 7200 RPM, sata II)
- LG 16x DVD+/-RW Dual Layer, IDE (GSA-4167)
- ASUS GeForce 7900 GT 256 Mt PCI-E
- Nexus Breeze 500 W
- MS XP HOME

The price should be around 1000€-1100€ I think.
That should also be a working PC, or have I left somthing out?
(mouse, keyboard and display I got)

I am also considering HP, Siemens and Dell, if the price is close enough.

The price is aprox 1450€, that seems a bit high

The two systems should be ~same performance I belive?

Your build doesn't look bad to me, it'll definetly play AHII. I don't recognize the power supply you chose; it's really very important to get a good one, I'm not saying that one isn't; I don't know anything about it in fact; I'm just saying never try to save money here, always buy the best quality P/S you can. Also w/o knowing what you already have for example - case, type of internet connection etc. It's hard to say if your missing anything like a case or a modem etc.

Some people will bash XP home but I have both XP Pro & XP home & I think the Home version works with a wider variety of games for me. My Asus equipment has been great & my nvidia video card is too. I don't know where you live so I don't know if you can get a better deal on any of the listed stuff, but you can usually build a better PC than you can buy off the shelf for less money. That's my .02.....opinions will vary.

I only have CRT, keyboard and mouse. Yes and Internet

The
Nexus Breeze 500 W is a case with powersuply.

I am not sure if it is that good tho, with all heat going out the PSU...

I want the case to keep components cool, and optionaly be a quiet one.
I had an Antec LanBoy, that I realy liked, but now I think it maybe was to small, and things got to hot.

I am a bit un-sure about the display adapter. The cost for it is ~30% off the whole package

But then again I think the 9700GT has a good price / performance.

I just noticed that the "ASUS A8N-E" has a chipset fan. Should I wory about that?
Passive cooling would be beter, any recomendations?

I think a 7800Gt or 7800GTX would serve you as well with that CPU & memory combo & save you a little cash too. LOL...I know you have the internet, that's obvious, but are you on dial-up? if so you will need to purchase a modem.

I would exhaustively research the power supply if I were you; I can't stress that enough, case/power supply combo's are notorious for P/S problems....you might try an ANTEC case/power supply combo if the one your looking at turns out to be a poor choice; ANTEC has really solid power supplies & good cases. If your P/S goes it can take other things out with it ( motherboard, CPU etc. ) Here is a link to one that is a combo for a decent price;

I'm not saying buy it from there.....or buy it period, just for you to look at & compare. The Sonata case is a fairly quiet one; but "too loud" depends on the person hearing the sound. I like chip-set fans, I like knowing things are cool, but I have a passive heat pipe on my chip-set & it's been ok so far.

Maybe I pay the extra, to get te ASUS with passive cooling. It also has SLI, maybe it proves usefull in the future

For internet I use ADSL.

Just get a good 430 watt power supply (or more) with solid voltage at the rails to go with it & drive the 7800 or 7900 power hungry video cards & you should be golden.

Make sure the 12+ rail is capable of suppling 20amps , the 78-7900GT's have the same power requirements . The 3000+ will not push either the 78 or 7900GT video cards to their capacity. Even with my 3700+ @ 3ghz , i see no improvement when overclcoking the 7800gt , only when i push the CPU harder . 38

It's $10 cheaper than the one you posted, but the one you posted is a little better ( two fans etc. ) It's just my opinion of course but I think you can't go wrong with Antec for price vs. quality. I would also always choose the Tru-power series over the Smart power series.
