Simple...you make too much money.

I have two tax write offs (2 children)...I have a duel income with wife working...so we are penalized by paying into the IRS every year.

Vote flat tax.

yep, I'm in same boat. And to think there are many out that do not want smaller taxes..... makes you wonder.

Where else do you think the government gets it's money for all of it's handouts... off the backs of the middle class. Don't make enough, you get all/most back, high enough income and you have the tax shelters to help you. In the middle, you are screwed!

Is not the progressive income tax system just a vehicle for govenmental redistribuition of wealth?

Try to find the list of states that actually correctly (in accordance with the procedure) ratified 16th Amendment to the US Constitution. At that time there were 48 States then existing, three-fourths (or 36) of which were needed to ratify it.

But hey, it all goes to good causes with no waste, doesn't it?

...and my folks, retired US military that were promised by the US government full medical care and free prescriptions for life..they're getting that right?

So, I can cheerfully accept the redistribution of my wealth to people I don't even know because MY parents are safely covered, right?

Wrong.

If I get a refund, it's going to my parents. But I doubt I will.

yeah santa it is amazing huh!

especially considering we (we=middle income working people)dont get anything out of it - i still cover all my own health care costs - i still pay tax on every purchase at the store - i still pay a highway robbery tax on my car every year.....

i know it goes to social programs and the like, but there are an estimated 50,000 homeless in san francisco for starters so....is it working?

On the bright side, if GW Bush's new tax plan goes through, you'll be paying a wopping $135 less per year!

22% here with a tax-free allowance of £4200.

MrFish - like someone said, you must be earning too much.   I though the US was the land of low taxation? Is 28% normal?

no way dowding - i am definitley not earning too much - my dumpy little apartment is testimony to that

the main problem is that a lot of my yearly pay is based on performance/results so it is paid out as a 'bonus' - which is taxed at 44% - regular income is taxed at about 25%

..... to get 28% i took everything i paid in taxes divided by what i made = 28% and i still have to pay about $2,500.00 more -

also am married now so have to pay the punishment tax for that....no kids and no house

it has to do with the way my pay is set up but still seems ridiculously high - especially for a 'non-kennedy' type like yours truly

28%??

Hmm to quote Canuck comedian Ron James...

"If you think living in Canada's not hard enough, how about the 54% on the dollar, boot to the ballz, bonecrushing tax?? I'd rather Revenue Canada sent a man to my door every year.. (knock knock) Hello, mr. James? (hauls off and kicks him in the nads)"

Seriously... I'd like to hear from my western comrades in Alberta on this issue.  I was shooting the breeze with a bunch of returned Newfies from AB and discovered that (possible) the highest paid workers in the country are losing nigh on 50% on every CHEQUE let alone sales tax and etc.  Stories of $5400 checks being decimated to $2800 after taxation, pension, health, and unemployment.  Gawd-amighty, hows a man supposed to live on $2800 every TWO WEEKS???

Anyhoo... cover your nads when talking taxation.

Jay.

Jay, how else do you expect to pay for socialized medical care? (Where folks that need good surgeons come to the U.S)

And speaking of doctors:

This beautiful woman one day walks into a doctors office and the doctor is bowled over by how stunningly
awesome she is. All his professionallism goes right out the window...

He tells her to take her pants, she does, and he starts rubbing her thighs.

"Do you know what I am doing?" asks the doctor?

"Yes, checking for abnormalities." she replies.

He tells her to take off her shirt and bra, she takes them off. The doctor begins rubbing her breasts and
asks, "Do you know what I am doing now?", she replies, "Yes, checking for cancer."

Finally, he tells her to take off her panties, lays her on the table, gets on top of her and starts having sex with
her. He says to her, "Do you know what I am doing now?"

She replies, "Yes, getting herpies - thats why I am here!"

What exactly do you Americans get for your high taxes, apart from a large military?

No wonder you are all so anti-tax. This sheds a little more light on your anti-socialist proclivities.
