Kagame let more than a few of his own peolpe die, and shot at least a few of the opposing side himself, to cement his ascension.
IIRC, he commanded the assassination of his rival, by shooting down his plane.

I haven't heard about the French connection yet.

A former trooper of Kagame that's exiled in Norway passed on cplus a few nights ago, on Karl Zero's show.  Said he was one of the few sent to setup the kill, described it, that he's still in touch with at least one of those present then.

A suit at the (French, I think) embassy of Rwanda dismissed the guy, saying he had no proof, no evidence for what he says.  He also says they did not make any investigations into the matter.... [since what the trooper says is definitely not true.]
