Facts about Friday the Thirteenth


Friday the Thirteenth: Efforts to account for this
unluckiest of days have focused on disastrous events
alleged to have occurred on it. Tradition has it that
on Friday the thirteenth, Eve tempted Adam with the
'apple'; Noah's ark set sail in the Great Flood;
confusion of tongues struck the Tower of Babel; the
Temple of Solomon toppled; and Christ died on the
cross. The actual origin of the superstition appears
also to be a tale in Norse Mythology. Friday is named
for Frigga, the free-spirited goddess of love and
fertility. When Norse and German tribes converted to
Christianity, Frigga was banished in shame to a
mountain top and labeled a witch. It was believed that
every Friday the spiteful goddess convened a meeting
with eleven other witches, plus the devil---a gathering
of thirteen---and plotted ill turns of fate for the
coming week. For many centuries, in Scandanavia, Friday
was known as Witches' Sabbath.


The infamous Black Plague in Europe was due in part to
the fact that people believed those with cats were
witches. So all the cats were rounded up, caged and
burned, leaving the rats (with there disease causing
parasites) to run free and multiply. Those harbouring
cats were many who survived.

Another fact about this Friday the 13th, is it is the 83rd anniversary of the Miracle of the sun, which occurred in Fatima, Portugal, in 1917.  

This event climaxed the sixth and last apparition of the Blessed Mother to the 3 children of Fatima, Jacinta, Francisco, and Lucia.  The miracle, as I recall, was witnessed by over 70 thousand people.

Don't believe everythign you read, especially if they're labelled "facts".

Considering the fact that our calender comes from Ceaser Agustus, several hundred years after Chirst's death, I find that very unlikely.
