The Bald eagle has made quite a comeback. The Govt removed them from the endangered species list (but they're still protected). We see more bald eagles in our area than hawks and the like.  Our neighbor lady (Divorced, whos moved since) had her little miniture datschun taken by an eagle (She claims) She said it flew off and ate the dog in one of our big trees in our backyard.  I didn't believe her until one day when I stepped outside and something caught my peripherial vision and this eagle flies about 20 feet off the ground right between our house and hers!  Scared the CRAP outta me!  Must have been looking for something more to eat?  I thought these birds were strictly fish eaters?

This is how most little dogs look to an eagle flying overhead:

I see red-tail hawks almost everyday...must be cool to have bald eagles flying around? :)

Not true.
Eagles will eat almost anything it can pick up.

And yours isnt the first story I've heard of an Eagle swoooping down and snatching small useless breeds of dogs.

My favorite is the one of a family traveling through in Alaska and stopping to picnic and let their Chihuahua out for a run. And the Eagle swooped down and took the little rat dog away.
