How does the F6F do at low alt or on the deck though?

Just wondering. I know I used to always find myself on the deck. :-(

Never was a good pilot but I had alot of fun and used to love the high I would get when I would just out manuver someone and live.

Ive personally not much seat time in the F6, but i learned to fear it as opponent.

It has decent performance, good turn, good guns, can take LOTS of beating....... ask Greebo or Balsy about it, they are resident experts in the F6 :=)

Whats so bad about fighting OTD? You can pick a nice bunch of flowers while flying and surprise your wife when you get home :). Above 5 K the air is much to thin to fly anyway....

F6 does very nicely, especially once you're comfortable with some reversals. Greebo can make that bird sing, so if you go that way might want to look him up.

Widewings been singing the praise of the F4U-1D, with very similar turn ability to the F6F, superior load capacity, and VERY nice low speed flapped performance.

The F4U also has the added advatage of giving some low cost perk plane with similar characteristics, the -1C and the -4. Makes transitiion from standard to perk ride fairly seamless.

Yak9U is a great plane to learn in.

Does everything well and what it cant out turn it can out run. Makes it very easy in the begining.

No need to worry about wep.

Some claim that the low ammo is a burden for new pilots, I claim the opposite. The low ammo learns you to conserve ammo and to pic your shots.

IF you learn to kill 3 enemies in a Yak9U you will be landing 6 kills regulary when you swich to another ride. But if you fly that other ride without having been in a Yak you will not get beyond killing 2...

Not sure this has been suggested before but...

Fly the il-2!

It turns great, carries 'a few bombs' and you pop everything with those cannons, even if your gunnery sucks

Reminds me of a alightly modified old saying....

Ask 10 AH2 players about the best  plane, and you'll get 12 answers....

i like the F4U-1c
Ok turner(If you know how to do the flaps right)
4 20mm canons
few bombs
(Can also takeoff from carrier)
But it costs a few perkies :(

But this is only my opinion

If you're gonna go for a perked Hog take the F4U-4. No cannon but Ma Deuce more than does her job, and 2x1000lb bombs and 8 rockets make for a nice wrecking ball. Plus you've got about the best all-around performance as you'll get from any of the prop planes.

Someone get Widewing in here to elaborate on the virtues of the 4-Hog.
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.
