Just thought maybe you'd like to know.:D

oh not you Bucky...basically just a vent. I do apologize if I offended anyone. I just get vaclempt (sp?) when I read about this and all our fellow brothers in arms putting it on the line everyday. I dont just mean americans either. Anyone who fights for thier country with the belief of defending it. And again I dont mean terrorists...but soldiers.

Two points,

The Revolutionary war was fought between on the one side the UK, and on the other side the colonists, the Spanish and the French. Don't you read history ?

Secondly

"Have you checked a globe lately? The "British Empire" isn't at all what it used to be.....wonder why?

Where you born this clueless or did you have to work on it"

The method in which the Empire was created would eventually lead to it's dissolution, in bringing democracy you create the seeds of self determination which is what happened to 95 % of the British Empire. Starting with the dominions of Canada and Australia and also South Africa and ending in the 60's with the withdrawal of Empire east of Suez.

In creating democratic systems the British acknowledged that they would one day eventually leave.

Those Countries which remain with the Queen as head of state are able at any time to proclaim republic status, that they don't is a testament to the remnants of Empire.

The Empire didn't implode, as soon as it was created it sowed the seeds of its eventual decline.

As to the Empire issue...I further suggest you travel around the globe and visit as many former colonies as you can.  Then compare their current situation on an "Empire" by "Empire" basis.

You will find that in the vast majority of cases the former British colonies are doing rather nicely compared to others.

On this day in 1918, in a conference of Allied military leaders at Abbeville, France, the U.S., Britain and France argue over the entrance of American troops into World War I.

On March 23, two days after the launch of a major German offensive in northern France, British Prime Minister David Lloyd George telegraphed the British ambassador in Washington, Lord Reading, urging him to explain to U.S. President Woodrow Wilson that without help from the U.S., “we cannot keep our divisions supplied…for more than a short time at the present rate of loss….This situation is undoubtedly critical and if America delays now she may be too late.”

:rofl Right! The only reason the empire existed was to spread democracy and welfare

Well, sure. EVERY definition of the "colonial" system says the colonies exist to provide a place for the mother country to spread democracy.

:rofl

Read it again, it says method not reason.

The British Empire in 1775 was quite small in comparison with what it would eventualy become.  But thanks for your interest

So you guys just started out using the "wrong" method to pillage the colonies? Otherwise, things would still be going great for ol' Mom, eh?

Gotcha.

lol this thread is confusing:confused:

bucky, sorry, i thought you were going on about the british being helpless, which we certainly proved to be wrong. once you guys came along and bought up the rear, we were golden :)

as for the british vs. american issue, there are so many things that have happened in our histories that make it impossible to say who is better, and who was more successful, and i think that that's a big reason we work so well as a political friendship, so much in common, lots of competition, but always friendly;)

There's a documentary about that fella Ben Affleck who won BoB which proves the claim as being correct. You can't argue historical evidence, can you?
