Getting ready to order new PC.

Venice w/ a 4000+ Venice on the Doom III 1280 Frame Rate comparison. 79.70 vs 80.70 -- a small difference you could never see with the "naked eye".

On Wolfenstein the difference is larger - 21% (157 vs 190) -- still I'm not sure the difference would be noticeable while playing the game.

I just checked several other benchmarks and the difference between the two is small enough that I don't think you'd really notice it. Last, I checked the price performance benchmark, and the 3000+ venice blows it away.

Of course their is the "ego" factor. If having to tell your geeky friends that you bought a 3000+ will bother you (cause they all have at least 3800 or dual cores) then maybe you should go a little bigger

And there is an old saying that goes something like "You will have to live with this purchase decision long after the joy of having saved a few bucks wears off".    

So far I'm still happy with mine - hopefully I'll get my joystick issue solved.

Interesting article....they basically have the aero420 outperforming the antec 550. The aero420 delivers 455 watts and the antec 550 delivers 495 watts

of course finding the damm thing is about impossible:)

Too bad they didnt test AH2  because every cpu cycle counts it these type of games.  If it came down to it, i would buy a middle of the road Video card and spend as much as i could afford on the CPU , or buy a generally  good overclocking chip and clock the crap out of it .

That should make a fine system.  If you don't like any of it, it's all upgradable so that's a good decision.

Went for 1GB RAM to save yet an other 90€.

Hmmm.  I think you will regret not having the extra memory.  Games like Battlefield 2 already need 2 gig, AMD's next cpu uses DDR2 so DDR memory prices may go up as manufacturers quit making it, and to upgrade to 2 gigs you'll want to toss out your entire 1 gig because the AMD mobos/cpus are MUCH happier when you only use 2 sticks of memory instead of 4.

1 gig is "enough" for AH, but memory is pretty cheap right now.  gskill sells a good quality 2 gig set of fast PC3200 for under $200.

Hehe, just mailed the PC store, and told them that  I want a 7900GT in stead of the 7600GT. Was reading some more reviews, and decided to pay the extra cost ~130€.

But now I have to wait for 2 more weeks to get the PC

But I think the 7900GT is worth it !

Not sure why you went for the Lightscribe if you are looking to save money. Yeah, it makes pretty discs, but why?

Changed the display adapter back to 7600GT....

If they had the 7900GT in stock I think it would have been worth the extra cost.

But wait 2 more weeks ? Who am I kidding? I want my PC now lol

I did not find that lightscribe was considerably more expencive.

Cheepest DVD+-RW was 38€ and for 10€ more I got lightscribe + Nero software.

my rig 2 cost about 1100 dolars and kicks ass.  I have it OC'd t0 2.35.  It will go higher, but there is really no need to push it.

I hope my new rig will run the games I want without OC.

I dont like the extra heat, and even if I got 20% more CPU speed, I do not think it realy makes any difference.

But I could be wrong.
