so 65 feet of cable wont work..but when i cut ity off..re-plug it,..5 ft works?

is there a length limit?

power of router?

cord is tested by a cat5e FLUKE..test says 65 feet...and good connect?

but when i plug in comp..no - go at 65 feet

I have a 50 ft cable to my other computer that works fine.

im having a pain in the ***..still cant understand why im not pushn the signal through 65 feet of Berk-Tek Standard Cat 5e _Hyper Plus 5e

its off a roll of 1k feet ..tested 2 differnt sections of cable 65ft..no go

test several smaller 10-7ft...works

Cable modem--router...then to 65ft away..no worky

we have 4 comps hooked up at our house, 3 of them are on 100 ft cat5e patch cables and have no problems at all, the 4th one is on a 6 ft cat5e cable.........

using a D-Link router / motorola cable modem......

something is a miss, is your fluke tester reading all the splines? you droping out somewhere.........

checked your router for a driver/flash update?

is the cable you using shielded or non shielded?

The official maximum length for Cat5e run is 100 meters. That is from computer to computer or computer to switch. Hubs do not add to the length, so if there is a hub between computers, the total length must be less than or equal to 100 meters.

If you're having problems with a shorter run, it is most likely a flaky cable. Make sure it is wired correctly and that the wires reach all the way to the end of the connector. It can be hard to tell with some connectors. If you hold the connector with one hand and tug the cable gently with the other there should be no movement of the outer sheath in the connector. Also, if it is a crimped connector, the sheathing should be inside the connector and crimped by the plastic. If you have the patience and a crimper, just cut both ends off and put two new ends on. It may take a few tries and a few inches of cable to get it right, but it's cheaper than buying new cables.

Try lowering the speed of the network to 10mbs. If you're running at 100mbs and have a marginal cable with noise you might have problems.

Also be sure that no more than about 1/2" is untwisted at the connector.

its not my cable..

i have put about 10+ new connectors on

Fluke reads A OK!

so..maybe router trouble...ahhh wtf..i think wireless is looking bettr

argh.....

not sure how to change speeds in router

does it matter if its strand or solid?

when i get home i will look at brand of router

The distance that Ethernet should be able to travel on CAT5E is at least 328 ft.

If you are having trouble with shorter distances, it is probably due to impedance mismatching. This is usually caused when people use wires from different pairs for either the TX or RX. Many cheap comercial cables are made with the wrong color code. This will still work in short runs, but you lose a lot of signal to reflected power. This is all because ethernet is a high speed balanced transmission line. But few people even have a clue of what I just said, and even fewer understand it LOL

Use the following color code exactly:

Pin 1 White Green
Pin 2 Green white
Pin 3 White Orange
Pin 4 Blue White (this connection is not used in Ethernet)
Pin 4 White Blue (this connection is not used in Ethernet)
Pin 5 Orange White
Pin 5 White Brown (this connection is not used in Ethernet)
Pin 6 Brown white (this connection is not used in Ethernet)

BGB...coming to Sacto monday till friday, all ready going out to whitney oaks & 12 bridges, actually have to go to meetings rest of the days. Might be up for grabbin some drinks or something.

Oh ya, and there is no way i am helping you fix that router problem. I hate that stuff. Good thing for me my neighbor is network engineer for nortel. Anytime I need something done in that area, he gets it done fast & painless.
