Different G effects for different Aircraft
« on: May 10, 2000, 09:14:00 AM »
Do some WW2 planes imbue the pilot with the ability to withstand higher Gs? Or do some WW2 planes allow a given manuver to be performed with lower Gs on the pilot?
Inquiring minds want to know...

Yes.

For example, the 109 had the pilots legs higher than the Spitfire did.  Thus, the blood wasn't pulled as hard towards the pilots feet.  This is the only thing about the 109 that was better than the Spit through the entire war.

Just a shame that the stickforces were too heavy in the 109 to pull any significant G's <G>

I wasn't saying that the blackout was the only thing that was better about the 109, I was saying that it was the only thing that was ALWAYS better, regardless of the versions that are being compared.  The 109E out rolled the Spit MkI, but the Spit MkIX out rolled the 109G is an example of something that was sometimes in favor of the 109 and sometimes in favor of the Spit.

So the 109 should handle Gs better in the game then a spit V?
I find that not only can it turn like a bat but the pilot can stay clear headed throughout better then a F4 or G2 for example.

Keep in mind that speed has a huge effect on G force.  If you enter the turn with the Spit at 200 mph and at 300 mph in the 109, the 109 pilot will blackout whereas the Spit pilot will not.  All things being equal, the Spit pilot will black out slightly, definately noticably, before the 109 pilot does.

How much difference did the top position on the Spits rudder pedals make? Did all the spits have this or just the later ones?

I always thought it would be pretty cool to base G tollerence on streaks. so as long as you keep your little virtual aviator alive you could gain up to say up to 8 or 9 G's before being totally blinded by the black screen. (what is it now? 7? )

I think loss of color would be fun too.
all that great disorienting stomach churning physiology stuff rocks <grin>
