Although opportunities for air combat were few, FM-2s notched a respectable 422 kills--many of them kamikaze aircraft--by the end of the war. On August 5, 1945, a VC-98 FM-2 from USS Lunga Point shot down a Yokosuka P1Y1 Frances recon bomber to score the last Wildcat kill of the war.

There's only five FM-2 pilots who attained Ace status in the FM-2 exclusively. These are:

Lt. R. E. Elliot, VC-27 - 9 kills
Lt.Cdr H.N. Funk, VC-26 - 6.5 kills
Lt. K. G. Hippe, VC-3 - 5 kills
Ens J. D. McGraw, VC-10 and VC-80 - 5 kills
Lt. L. M. Ferko, VC-4 and VC-20 - 5 kills

In the game, the default skin (White 17) is that of Lt.Cdr Funk. See photo below.

Edward "Butch" O'Hare 5 kills in one day became the navy's first fighter ace of the war and did it in an FM-2.

He flew a Wildcat, but not an FM-2. O'Hare flew an F4F-3, White F-15 and F-13 of VF-3. He scored those 5 kills in White F-15.
