I'm a former Deputy Sheriff.
My partner was on patrol & gets a call about a 2 car accident. We didn't work wrecks. We left that to the Highway Patrol but because we didn't have many officers & our county was pretty big, the HP would help us on calls so we in turn would help on wrecks with traffic.
Anyway, Mike arrives & he see's one car in the ditch and one car in the middle of the road. A headon. He checks the car in the ditch first because it's closer to him. 1 man, shaken but ok. As he is approaching the 2nd car, the car in the road, whoosh! It catches on fire. Totally involved. More of an explosion than anything, he said later. Mike had to stand there & listen to a woman & her daughter scream & wail as they burned to death. He never got over it and I'll leave that there.
Firemen are some of the bravest people I have ever met. I don't think I could do it. Fire scares the bejesus outta me.
