Windows XP Failure Help
« on: May 11, 2006, 01:05:51 PM »
Help needed... A PC running WinXP Pro was syncing files with a laptop. For some reason, the sync got locked up. I restarted the PC and now all it will do is give me the boot menu options for

Safe Mode
Safe Mode with Networking
Safe Mode with Command Prompt

Last Known Good Configuration

Start Windows Normally

No matter what option I choose, the PC skips back to this screen every time.

I decided to use the recovery console to repair the Windows installation, however I need tghe Administrator password for the PC, which I seem to have forgotton.

Anyone have some usefull suggestions? If I do a complete re-install of Windows, which I believe does not require the Admin Password, will windows potentially get installed over existing data?

I tested it, and it works. Make sure to write all chages to disk!
