Missile Command was a blast (hehe).  Spent countless hours playing it.  Never really enjoyed Space Invaders.

My favorite game of all time was the 3D version of BattleZone (not the vector graphics version).  When you could play it over the Internet, it was just a blast.  When they killed the dedicated servers, it was a sad day for me.

Oh the quarters I used to throw away on the arcades playing Asteroids and that game where you had to land the lunar lander on the moon, and Missile Command

Hey, Skuzz... talk HT into putting some Missile Command batteries at the field instead of ack.

You might even get me out of a plane then.. ;)

I'm wondering if 2007 will finally be the year of Duke Nukem Forever...

Prey looks like it might have the 'move/asplode everything' physics folks are looking for.

I'm probably the only one who would like this:

a mix of Crimson Skies and AH, with a touch of RPG:

- realistic flight model
- fantasy planes (no more 'the Me190 Mk IX is over/under/UFO modelled' whines!)
- airships!!!! (man, flying and shooting down those was nice in Dawn of Aces...)
- market prices, you have to buy your plane or airship, your engine(s), your guns and ammo. You can also custom it (engine and airframe tuning, gun modding, colors schemes,...). There are also common goods to buy and sell.
- system generated missions to earn $ like haul x tons of stuff from A to B, escort said hauler, attack airfield...
- Your flying skills are yours. No RPG there. But you could use XP to be a little more resilient to G forces or pain (when wounded), develop a better eyesight (dot and icon range increased), be better at fine tuning planes or bargaining (better prices when buying/selling), producing stuff or even designing planes/engines/guns from scratch (i.e. lottery once a month, the higher your in-game skill, the better your chance to win, the winner gains a blue-print to produce a new type of plane/engine/gun... that he can use/copy/sell at will).
- the players can design new 3d models of planes/airships but every model submitted has to be accepted by the game designers. Again, an in-game reward can be offered to the best player-designer every 2-3 months.

Maybe someday....

I'm still waiting for the game I imagined back when I was a teenager.

I want a game where I can pilot a space ship, it takes place in a persistent universe, and has a high resolution terrain.  I'm running from some big battleship in my freighter.  I drop in towards a planet, heat shields blazing.  My ship is shuddering from the occasional laser blasts from the pursuing ship, and just before I drop below a cloud layer, I drop a nuclear mine that detonates a few seconds later.  As it does, I take the my ship down, come to an emergency stop above the water, and cut all power.  By the time the fireball and radiation above fades (it hasn't hurt my pursuer, just jammed his sensors), my ship has sunk underwater.  Without a power signature,  as far as the other guy can tell, I've either somehow jumped to hyperspace, gone stealth, or was the explosion he just saw.  If he's suspicious, he can bombard the ocean, but how effective would that be?

Or...  I've made a homebase on a jungle planet.  Using phasers or lasers or whatnot I've hollowed out a cave in a cliff face where I can park my ship.  Same thing in asteroids, moons, etc.

Fleet space battles, from big ships to little.  Carrying crew that can walk around in the ship and do repairs and man weapons.  Have a couple of fighter sleds in the hangar that can be deployed by living players, etc etc etc.

Some day...

Arrrgh, earlier in this thread I say "Prey", but I actually meant "Crysis", the new Far Cry game.

Check out this technology clip:

Included, fully destructible environments, as requested.
