BBCClearly this would not have happened without the combination of Sept. 11th, the FARC training fiasco and the recent admittal by Gerry Adams that one of the men training the FARC was an IRA representative in Cuba.
The IRA with was left with no alternative but to show the US it was not a member of the 'International Terrorist' club.
