Have we become nancy boys?
« on: May 16, 2006, 06:48:03 AM »
a thought just occoured when i was just reading the message boards for an FPS. a person suggested that there be more gore in the game, but many said that it would be innapropriate.....let that sink in.....no gore in a game where you kill people because it is innapropriate? which then got me thinking: when you see modern war footage, you rarely see dead bodies and when you do, it is very briefly and never very graphic.

am i the only one who believes that if a nation does not have the fortitude to see what war is, they should not go to war?

please discuss this in a civilized manner as it is a serious subject.

There is a difference in what you see in a GAME and what reality is like.

You have a point to a degree, but you also run the risk of desensitizing people as well.

I would think that when a noob gets his first taste of war it is overwhelming in many ways, then as the noob becomes a seasoned vet they are more or less desensitized to it so that they can deal with what they have to do.

Nations sometimes must go to war, I was in the Army, Armored Cavalry for 22 years. There things you just don't need to see on the news or in a game.

Those of us who have been there, we still see it for you... you wouldn't like it.

The powers that be are simply hiding the horrors of war so future generations wont be afraid to do battle.

It depends on where you go to see the footage.  You are not going to see "gore" on the 1800 news.  However there are plenty of places on the Internet where you can see unedited footage.

It's so as not to send one part of the audience/teeming masses running to mama's skirt in fits of repression, and the other into fantasmagorical seizures of bloodlust and general disregard for the tacit gentlemens' agreement that is 'society'.

Yes SMIDSY, we have. I haven't, I say we in a general sense.

Political correctness is as far from common sense as a thought can be moved. All that garbage about games & music "causing" violence in real life is B.S., if it affects anything it's because parents; if there are parents instead of A parent which is an intregal part of the problem, say "where's junior? I haven't seen him all day."

Well folks that's because you're using video games, Ipods, PC's, TV's ETC. as babysitters. Television & games and such are not the problem, it's the guidance that is lacking to go along with them.

All those school shootings could have been prevented, not by outlawing guns or violent video games; but by a firm butt whipping that was backed up by law enforcement & the courts instead of bleeding heart political correctness cry-babies saying "that poor child has rights!" & dragging parents into court for abuse. Those same political correctness advocates then cry foul when the little hellions go out and commit crimes!

Common sense was the first murder of the new millenia, you can see it on these very forums. All forums really & in the paper & just talking to people; they have lost their freaking minds. The general population is so brainwashed now into the "capitulate & all will be fine, don't lower yourself to their level" mentality. It sickens me to see people victimized because they wouldn't help themselves & then, if they survive it, they go on to say it wasn't the criminals fault, they blame violent video games or rap music or society.

Wake up and smell the smoke before you burn to death people; the house is on fire!

If it seems hard for you to "see it from their side"; DON'T TRY TOO! see it in the simplest most direct form you can & don't over-complicate it, because if you do, your simply trying to find a way to swallow BULL-*censored* to pacify someone else & coddle their sensitivities so they won't be offended. Here's a novel idea, go ahead and offend them. If you think someones kid is a rotten snot, tell them so. You are not in the wrong, they are for raising their child that way.

You may think I have digressed from the point of the opening poster, but I haven't, it's all intertwined. I don't know if it's the "devil" as put forth in the christian bible, but something is happening & it is tricking people into becoming no better than dogs that have been beaten to the point where they just roll over & piss on themselves whenever they are confronted even if they have done nothing wrong.

The great American Samuel Adams has a few quotes I love & will repost them here:

“It does not require a majority to prevail, but rather an irate, tireless minority keen to set brush fires in people's minds”

“Mankind are governed more by their feelings than by reason.”

“How strangely will the Tools of a Tyrant pervert the plain Meaning of Words!”

“A general dissolution of principles and manners will more surely overthrow the liberties of America than the whole force of the common enemy. While the people are virtuous they cannot be subdued; but when once they lose their virtue then will be ready to surrender their liberties to the first external or internal invader.”

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!”

People shouldn't confuse kindness for weakness & they should not want peace so much that they forfeit their own thoughts & feelings for the sake of it. So the next time someone approaches you & proceeds to spew the utter stupidity that is political correctness, kindly tell them to **** - off, after all, you have a right to freedom of speech too, use it.

Edited for punctuation & a couple spelling mistakes.

The Columbine shooters were both from intact, two-parent families. Additionally, the theory that insufficient violence (spanking, paddling, whipping @ school, and again @ home) would've prevented it, is conjecture at the very best. Ancedotes such as, "Back in my day they had these paddles..." is not science. If we're going to use ancedotes... well, Nintendo was my baby-sitter. My parents never spanked me past 4 years old, and I was never grounded. I live a successful and moral life.

If you have to beat goodness into somebody, you're already screwing up.

I had typed out a bunch of crap in response to gratuitous gore and then it occured to me: "A bunch of guys were participating in an FPS on-line forum discussing manhood" and I started laughing too hard to finish the paragraph.

Things are pretty screwed up these days, but I don't think it's for the same reasons you're citing.

Are you saying that the mental facillities are the same between a 4 year old and someone in middle school, junior high, or highschool? What's that saying when they interview parents about their kid messing up? "He used to be such a good child!" :)

Let me clarify exactly what I'm saying. It doesn't matter if there are 1 parents or 2. A single, good parent, setting a good moral example will not have to beat goodness into their children or worry about ultra-PC parents interfering with how they raise their children.

A single, or intact married couple, raising a child and setting a bad moral example... it doesn't matter how often they beat in the goodness. It will have the exact opposite result, and the child will turn out just like the immoral parents.

Just saying, lead by example & not stern words & fists/belts/switches :)
