Log on lock for MA
« on: May 16, 2006, 02:59:34 PM »
Only since 2.07, I've repeatedly but unpredictably run into hard locks when logging in.

At first, these only happened when I went offline for practice (where I used teh Karelia map). When logging into the TA afterwards, the system would lock after loading all textures and terrain -- leaving me with a progress bar, and requiring a power button reboot. This disappeared when i changed the offline map to FesterMA.

Now I'm having a similar lock when logging in, even directly into the MA. About 1/3 of the time, I'll see all teh textures load, then enter the MA base tower -- only to hard lock there. I'll ahve teh clipboard up, but the pointer and other icons are white diamonds on the map. The chalkboard is whited out, with grey letters spelling out the variable entries (like "disabled") but the headers invisible. Terrain appears normal. This also requires a warm reboot.

I run a Pentium 4 2.4 Gig with 1GB RAM, 256mb video ram, and Windows XP personal edition. Other specs will ahve to wait -- I'm a t my work computer.

Had something similar.

Suggest you clear everything from the cache folder in AH directory and restart AH offline.  Let it recreate all the textures.  Usually fix's anything wrong.  Seems something in the cache sometimes gets corrupted.  When it does delete and recreate.

HMMMM.................

I sometimes remove and reinstall AH.

I leave everything, just do a unistall using the add/remove programs portion of windows.  And then reinstall AH.  If done correctly no setting are lost.

But I recently noticed AH install now has a repair option.

You could try that or email Skuzzy?

Yeah, may need to do that.

He suggested the Karelia  map might have been the problem when I first ran into trouble, and it does seem that lockup at the very end of texture load did go away when I switched the offline map.

I posted here mostly to see if anyone else had noticed the problem, but so far it seems to be just me. I updated drivers for the video card, tho its such an old one that I doubt the newest version of NVidia's "universal" driver had much in the way of tweaks for it. I'll have to see what happens from there....

It isnt a gamebreaker, but it would be nice to get it cleared up.

HMMM........

Maybe delete the Karelia Map and redownload it?  If it only happens on a certain map maybe that one is corrupted?

Sorry to take so long to reply with you thinking you are the only one this happens to.

No, it was happening to me too. At least it was online in the MA. Never tried it offline.

Like you, I updated my forceware drivers and all that carp. Deleted cache..blah blah blah blah.

Nothing worked and I woudl get a complete lock-up about 2 out of every 3 log-ins to the MA.

Now for what fixed it?  Probably just a complete coincidence here, but everytime i had a lock-up, i was just flying through the log in screens as they popped up.

When i let the Arena selection page with the pings on it load..sit for a good 10 seconds and the pings stabilize...THEN click on the MA...never a lock -up ..not once.
