Tank Towns
« on: May 18, 2006, 10:05:00 AM »
I know that AH is a flight game. I like to fly and do the GV thing. When a tank town location is included in a map, could it be surrounded by high mountains. I mean 50 K mountains. Mountains that would require a space shuttle to get over. The tank guys can have a good time, free of flying rats. The air guys would have the rest of the world to dogfight in or bomb.

NO! My goodness, that's beyond reality! This is to be fun in a relistic setting. Air support is to be able to reach every corner of each MA map. Not possible.

This type of feature has been asked for by both the TT guys & the FT guys. I think the idea is complex, since like the current ndisles map, the TT area has A-bases in very close proximity, this causes people to bring jabo & buffs because there is very little alt required to reach the TT area. Because of this, I like to get a good cannon armed turn fighter & go in looking for buffs & jabos because they are invariably low & slow.

I like to GV, but I like to get low & slow in a furball too. So it delivers on multiple levels. It is annoying if you want to get into a tank battle & all the GV guys are in TT participating in the murderous action there & you have the bother of being bombed too. Why don't the "furball action only heros" who bash the GV part of the game & try to insult the people who like it, go there & furball? Because they don't want the GV guys to see them go down in flames after bragging about how good they are?

Realistic, man what planet are you from.

In Reality:

Enemy aircraft do not fly with icons
Heavy bombers do not dive bomb!!!!!!!
Tanks with blown off turrents are not repaired with a box of C-Rats
WW2 Pilots did not have "auto take off", or a ZOOM Canopys.
When you died, you could not just repsawn !!!!!!
Bombed out hangers do not "pop up" in 15 minutes.
And on, And on, And on.

This is a game, no more no less, and lots of fun to boot. I love AH. I dont think my wife cares for it much.....lol.

If you want reality...join the Air Force

This is a game

THIS IS A GAME OMFG O GOD MY WHOLE SENSE OF REALITY HAS DIMINISHED!! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! Well a bombed out hanger can be put up in about 3 hours or so and considering we have scaled the size down of everything so it comes out right. Also, we have icons so the old farts don't have to look as hard to see the enemy plus its not like we are fighting for a country with there own planes which is why we have them. Plus how could you tell an enemy from that dust speck on your screen?

Hey this is not a game for some of us it is a way of life.:lol

And BTW i am going to join the Airforce when I come of age.

Sure, you can have this, as soon as we "flying rats" get airfields without Roach Motels. But, seeing as how all airfields have vehicle hangars, and all vehicle bases don't have planes enabled, you're already one up on us, and must therefore be bombed mercilessly and repeatedly.

What about these ideas:

1.  Have only certain close support aircraft in the bases inside the area of tank town.  Shorter runways with difficult takeoff/landings that the large Bombers nedotiate only with extreme difficulty, if ast all (stops folks form rearming there and taking back off).  That would be the Ju87, the SBD, the Val, Kate, Il-2, etc. and a couple 2nd Tier only fighters, if any (P-40? Am2?) to get them some action.  I can hear the whines now (The P-47/Typhoon was the close support AC, so was teh F4U blah blah blah . . .) tough.  The point is to get the Hangar Queens into action without overburdening tank town with Lancs and 24s divebombing in threes.

2.  Model the US M3 Grant/Lee as it was the chasis for the M31B2 Tank Recovery Vehicle for Tank Recovery and Repair.  You need one of those to now repair tanks but M3 Halftracks can resupply.  Give anyone recovering a tank good enough perks ot make it worth their time.  After being repaired, you start at the respawn point--not where you were when you were "recovered".

3. Leave the usual mountains, if someone wants to spend an hour climbing in a Lanc to get there, let them but let their be enough fighter support to eliminate them when they get there (see #2 above).

I'd put Naval Patrol aircrat at ports (Vals, Kates, Regia Aeronautica skinned Stukas, TBMs, SBDs)  and Vals and SBDs and Il2s at VHs also.

Why the hell not?

Hell, I'd enable anything that performed in the attack role for a naval airforce at ports, and anything that was an attack plane historically at all the Vbases too.

I'll never understand the double standard there.

Tank Town and Fighter town are not really official designations are they?

But personally, I respect them as 'seperate' little entities in the arena.

Others will see TT and FT as easy pickings.

Problem is....Ya can't tell people how to play the game
