I bet this has been asked for trillions of times before but i think we could use another tank killer.  So i would like the P-39.

What Sikboy is saying is that the P39 is not a tank killer. The 37mm it carried was a HE round, just a large cannon, couldn't penetrate tanks' armor.

Still be good to have.

Rather have a unicycle for the ground game though.

Sik, where did you find it was an M4 37mm gun?  some of the stuff I'm finding says T9.  So far I haven't found any ballistic information or rounds used for the M4 or the T9

I think the Airacobra pre-dated the Yak-9T.  Anyone "in the know" have any idea if the lend-lease versions of the p-39 inspired the Russians to mount the 37mm in the Yak?

There was a great p-39 thread in here somewhere from eons ago, I'm trying to find it now. IIRC, they were equipped with several different varieties of those large cannons, and there were several manufacturers, and performance was all over the place. Too bad you can't search by model numbers in here. I'll link that thread if I can find it.

here's one

Jeez, the search tool is a PITA sometimes.

Actually Airscrew, I was just going from Memory. I think the T9 is the same gun as the M4, but with a different manufacturer? I could be totally off.

I imagine the P-400 would find a place in the MA as well as the AvA and events. But I don't believe there was ever a US made 37mm that was worth the metal it was made out of.

I love the P39!  We have one here in Niagara Falls at our museum as Bell Areospace made them here. As for the T-9 37mm cannon, it was created by Oldsmobile (no joke) and the Usaaaf called it by M-4, and fired the one seen below, the 145R.

Fired through this nose hub:

This plane really did pack a punch though.  As well as the 37mm it had two .50 cals in the nose, and four .30 cals out on the wings!

Too bad Bell Aerospace took out the original super turbocharger.
