I was reading somwhere that the Red paint job was put on the 163 by the ground crew who thought the 163 to be invincible. The pilot came out for a mission and was real pissed but had to take it up any way for lack of time to repaint. Also it said that the red paint had a high lead content and made the plane a bit heavier than normal.   When the pilot landed he made them repaint it back to standard.

So if this account was correct the skin did make at least 1 combat run :)

On topic.... That would be a most awsome skin!!!!

unfortunately HTC says right in the skin submission guidelines that they wont accept any skins which alter the aircrafts outline or appearance in any way.

Too bad, that thing would give us buff killers fits :aok
Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

HTC won't accept weird one-offs like purple polka dotted B-24 formation ships, even if they did see squadron service in WW2. IIRC Pyro posted something to this effect when player skins were first introduced.

The above aircraft is both weird, was a test rather than service plane, and is also a B-24D which we don't have in the game. So sorry, but IMO it would have no chance of getting in. Shame though, it'd be an interesting project to skin.

Thats the coolest skin Ive ever seen!!! I want it.

I just wish HT would accept my "Yippee" skin that I made, I know any P38 Pilot would go nuts to have it in the game.

Strange, I would think every aircraft skin is essesntially a 'one off'.

For e.g.
The XVI (LFIXe) skin I sent in flown by Rolf Arne Berg is definately a 'one off'. No other Norwegian flown Spit had red/white/blue stripes on rudder/spinner and wings.

As you know with RAF stuff it is incredibly hard to find skins that are 'different' enough from the standard to warrant the time doing them.

Personally I'd love to see the polka dot B-24 in-game leading a formation all the way to target.
I would say if it seen 'active service', i.e. not for test purposes, it should be allowed. Even if it didn't actually fire guns in anger.

There are a lot of Seafire skins I could do that although they seen service with the BPF, they never actually seen combat. Reason I haven't is that they are not different enough from the std Seafire skin.

The key word was weird rather than one off. I think it would subtract rather than add to the MA's WW2 "feel" to have polka dotted B-24s flying around.

Incidentally the thread with Pyro's post is this one.

I understand Greebo, but for example the RAF -

Sooner or later (prob sooner) the only differences available will be the sqn codes, what then?

Take the Spit V for example -
Default
Bare metal RAAF
Bare metal RHAF
European theatre one ( old brown/green)
European theatre one ( later grey/green)
European theatre one D-Day ( later grey/green)
Med one (desert)
N. africa one (desert)
RAAF
SAAF
RCAF (same markings as RAF, but maybe has a Mapleleaf)
VVS

IX's and VIII's are just as bad for options.
XVI's are even worse for options, as are Tiffies, Temps, Lancs, XIV's, I's. Althoguh allowing LF IXe skins on the XVI has helped a little.

Whats left apart from the weird one offs?

Point being once a certain aircraft has reached the point were the only real difference is codes/numbers then the wierd "one offs" should be considered. I think the B-24 will eventually reach that point.
Almost guarentee all the RAF stuff will.

Remebering they are looking for skins that are different, i.e. not the same apart from the code/number and maybe a mapleleaf.
