Lastnight I logged in the game and wasnt really in the mood at all. I saw some of my squaddies were on and went to where some of them were. It was a big battle with the bish and thought it would be fun. Died....died again...too crowded, and between poor framesrates and not really being into it I came about 2 seconds from logging off.
I saw to the east the knits had taking alot of ground so I went to 122 to see what was happening. There were just a couple rooks there defending as the FHs and VH was dead. I upped the IL2 and after being vulched a couple times was able to get airborne. A couple well placed cannons headon vs a couple other vultures allowed me to get to town where I found a goon just arriving. After killing him, what came next was the most instense defensive play in the game Ive experienced for quite awhile.
After killing a bunch of goons there, MGD and Odd put a low level mission together to try to capture the base that was just NE of 122, which was 108. We came 1 smokin typh close to taking it out from under their noses. But before the last of us died we scorched it of troops. One more break for besieged 122.
However there was a CV near 122 that was still applying pressure. 3 of us took hvy p47s to it. Then again. We realized there were 2 CVs. We ended up strafing them dead with 110 fire. 122 was relieveed at last.
The night finally ended with 2 CV strikes using level bombing TMBs w/ 2000lb bombs. The defense of 122 was the high water mark of the Knit assault that started late yesterday afternoon. Once we held them in check there, they didnt take another base, and we eventually advanced.
You never know when you log on if you are going to experience just another shoot/die night that blend in with all the other nights, or if you will experience "One of those nights" that stand out in your mind and will remember for a long time to come.
