I know a lot of guys have upped a Spit XIV thinking they had grabbed a XVI.

Would it be possible to either -

a) Change them to non roman numerals, i.e. 14 and 16.

or

b) Remane the XVI as an LF IXe.

Should prevent any confusion in the heat of the moment.

simple - count your prop blades before take off. Sing and repeat really fast:

three is five,
five is fourteen,
four is sixteen
or eight or nine

Not a good idea. We already have a IX.

Kev, forgive me if I'm jaded with you on the matter, but the sceptic in me (he's a short guy, balding, but I keep him around anyways) says this is just step 1 in a plan to get more "late war" spits, plan 2 would be saying "We don't have anything unperked over a spitIX! We need more!"

heh heh heh, then again I always am a suspicious bugger.

I have never taken the wrong Spit.  Not once, ever.

And if I did, I would notice as soon as I started the engine as the Griffon sound I have is much different than the Merlin sound.  And that is assuming I didn't notice the difference in the cockpit view of the nose and prop.

Ehhhmmm, you mentioned sounds. What and where is the best soundpack we have currently?
And as you said, that would also inform people as soon as the engine starts ;)
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)

I don't know which is the best sound pack.  I use sounds from all over, including some from sound packs.

My Griffon sound is something I found on the internet though.

Lol.

Main reason was as stated, brought on by an incident a few days ago.

Few of us were attempting a capture and a guy kept upping a Spit XIV, I mentioned it on channel 200 to him.
He thanked me and said he thought he was grabbing a XVI.
Easy to do in the 'heat of the moment', and isn't the first time I've seen it happen.

As for step 1 - You should know by now the only other late war Spit that could possibly be included would be the F.21, no others made it into service. Unless you count the Seafire L III.

In that case just make them 14 and 16, thats how their icons read anyway.

Hmmm,
What are you from?
Perhaps a little more time on grammar and not Roman Numerals, would have been more productive. (J/K)

Seriously - I have no problems with Roman Numerals, I was trying to think of other people.
