something i've wondered about bearcats, would it have absorbed punishment like other "Grumman Iron Works" planes...

By all accounts, the airplane was every bit as tuff as it's legendary predecessors.. and the grumman birds that came along afterwards were also rugged aircraft. While it didn't do combat for the Navy, it did in french hands get a stellar war record in the 1950's.

Argh..that F4U looks mean in blue, but that pink job looks like its trying to coursty while wearing a pink tutu...with spindly little legs as well.

Not an F4U, but an F2G2... 28 cyl. engine, 15 total ever produced and had a 7k ROC.  (thanks GTO) It is in Reno racing colors.

yep if ol kurt woulda known how to build an airplane he woulda built the Bearcat.   It did everything better than the FW series and didn't catch fire either.   Fuel injection on a plane that might get hit by fast moving bits of metal is a really really bad idea.   Germans were the best at bailing out tho..
