It can not be limited to 10.  It must be 13 which would be all of Yanni’s albums:
 Ethnicity
 If I Could Tell
 Tribute
 Acropolis
 In My Time
 Dare to Dream
 Celebration
 Reflections
 Niki Nana
 Cameleon
 Out of Silence
 Imagination
 Optimystique

It's weird to me how, whenever a thread like this appears, the preponderance of the albums listed were made sometime in the 70's or just prior. It's as if music suddenly ceased to be when Reagan was sworn in or something.

That was a heck of a long time ago...

Anyways, despite there being tons of great albums made in those days, I thought I'd freshen the typical list up a bit. Here are my top tentwenty.

The Clash: Sandanista
The Smiths: Strangeways, Here We Come
Replacements: Pleased to Meet Me
Elvis Costello: Get Happy
R.E.M.: Murmer
Pixies: Doolittle
Guided by Voices: Bee Thousand
Radiohead: OK Computer
The Flaming Lips: The Soft Bulletin
Pavement: Slanted & Enchanted
Nirvana: Nevermind
Liz Phair: Exile in Guyville
Weezer: Weezer
Wilco: Being There
M.I.A.:  Arular
White Stripes: Elephant
New Pornographers: Electric Version
The Strokes: Is this it?
Gorillaz: Demon Days
Interpol: Turn on the Bright Lights
The Distillers: Coral Fang
Arcade Fire: Funeral

"I believe that the music one gets hooked on when they are young ( 14-19 or so) will end up being the music that they will always regard as their favorite type of music"

Oh. Not really...

When I was four I was crazy about Jim Croce. When I was 7 it was Elton John's Captain Fantastic. When I was 8 it was all about the Bay City Rollers... (lol).... then it was E.L.O.... heh. And, etc.

I don't think there's too much commonality between these guys and my top ten now. In fact, if you take one album from my list and put it beside another album on my list that you think it most closely resembles, they are still going to be two albums wildly dissimular.

So no, I don't think it applies.

I too have a theory, though.... and that is when people stop growing, they start dying. It's true of the physical self, yes, but also true of the mental or spiritual self.

These top ten lists are a sort of an x-ray of that process as far as I'm concerned.

I like music. I like new music.

I was just saying that I beleive that the music one gets into from the ages 14-19 will end up being regarded as the person's "favorite" music when they look back and are asked to list as their favorite music or albums.

Think about the music you like the most as you look back, and I'll bet the music you regard with the fondest memories and the music you regard as your "favorite" is the music you got hooked on between the ages of 14-19.

Like I said, Nuke, it doesn't apply. At least to me.

Of the albums I listed, only 3 or 4 were made when I was 14-19.

I didn't say when they were made, just the age you were when you got into them.

lol.... okay.

I'm saying no.

I'm not saying that your theory is bad, but just that it is bad in relation to my personal experience.

Maybe my theory *is* wrong though.

I guess it's more accurate to speculate that music and events in one's life combine to form a strong connection between these events and what you percieve to be your favorite music.

Of course, I'm just blabbering.....;)
