Kelly Clarkson Blue Angels

I was in the waiting area for my LASIK consultation today at the optomotrist and was flipping through "people" magazine when I saw a picture of Kelly Clarkson sitting the back seat of Blue Angels # 7 giving the peace sign!  THIS IDIOT GOT A RIDE????  The magazine reported she blew chunks several times....:aok

It just pisses me off that the blues, t-birds, and other fighter squadrons exclusively give rides to celebs...They claim that its publicity for the unit....yea for what, a day?

In my opinion every single crew chief, armorer ect...should have a back seat ride atleast once before some POS celeb gets on...

Cav,

It's the same in the military as well.  I've met more admin/support types that have had "incentive rides" than I have people that actually work on the things.

It makes sense that the crews should get the chance first, but really think about it.  If they didn't give the celebs rides the only time you would see anything from these demo teams is when they were performing at an airshow in your area.  Like it or not, the footage from celeb rides keeps them in the public eye, even if for short durations.

Cougar I respectfully disagree.....How many teenys or even adults reading "people" actually read the article and gave a damn about the blue angels...My guess is little if any...Most of them thought, oh wow, kelly clarkson played maverick, and will never give it thought again...

The Blues have no problem staying in the public eye...How many people do they entertain a year?  1 million plus?  Then think of the word of mouth publicity they get from each person telling a friend after the show....I just dont see how giving celebritys rides in jets is a valid claim to keeping the public up to date on the teams....Honestly, without a google search can you tell me 10 celebs that have taken rides in the 06 season?  Im sure the # is in the high teens, if not 20's...Its a load of bs if u ask me

Gunslinger is so right. I worked on helicopters and always seen the "staffers" go up before the people that actually kept them flying.

Can't blame 'em for wanting to get her in the backseat.

she struggles with her appearence (edit: weight) but by and large, all things considered, she is an attractive young woman.

Let's be honest if you were a Blue Angel, who would you rather in the back seat. Kelly Clarkson or some sweaty mechanic. The fact that she blew chunks is neither here nor there. I probably would too without it diminishing my enjoyment. I took +5 and -2 in a Pitts once, an amazing combination of exhilaration, joy, nausea, fear and pain. Fair dues to her for actually taking up the offer of a flight. Many wouldn't.

Its for publicity.  Nice to see the average celeb step off the stage and appreciate what the flyers do.  Amongst the G-outs and puking, it humbles em.  I say let em keep doing so!
