Can't fly bombers...

I start AH, jump in the hanger and click B-24's and hit NE runway... the screen freezes, it turns white and I get a windows error message.  I did a freash install of the game and the funny thing is I can fly anything other than bombers.  Can fly IL2's, A20's, Mossies, but not anything with formations (on or off).  After I get the error message the game crashes, of course, and that is that.... maybe God is telling me to stop bombing the outhouse's....
THis all started last night, flew for 2 hours straight in F4U-1 and Tiffie's and then went to fly a set of Lancs and poof! Gone...
Anyone... Anyone....  ??

You reinstalled AH but I bet you left your cache and settings folders in place.
You don't want to delete the settinggs files so copy them to a temporay folder and let AH rebuild the default settings files.  If that works you can start work on finding which file is corrupt.

PS, AH will expect the cache and settings folder to exist so leave the folders, delete the cache files and move the settings files somewhere safe.  I hope that makes sense. You keep the settings files because that's where your head positions, key and stick maping files are stored amoung other things. Figure out which file is causing hte problem and restore the rest.

Well I tried it and it didn't work Easy.  I got rid of the cache files and I reloaded the game and rebuilt the cache.  I go into the game and I can still fly any plane as long as it is not labeled just 'Bomber'.  If it is a bomber/attack plane I am good and can fly it as either one.  So... if it is just a bomber, AR234, B17, B24, B26, Lancs, etc. etc....  If it is labled just as a bomber / formation planes I can't fly them....

Your problem has to be one of the "settings" files.

Do this:

Find your "settings" folder in C:\Program Files\HTC\Aces High II.

Rename it, something like "old settings".

Make a new empty folder, name it "settings".

Launch AH, it will rebuild the 6 default files in the "settings" folder needed to run AH.  See if bombers work, they should.

One at a time, replace the 6 default files in your new "settings" folder with COPIES of the cooresponding files you saved.  Each time you move a file, check in-game to see if it broke the game.  Once you find out which file was causing the crash, delete all copies of it and let AH rebuild it with the default version.  Then you can safely move all your head positions, stick and keyboard setting files back into the "settings" folder.  That's a lot better then recreating them all manually.

We'll have to up some bombers together sometime.

Okay, I did this and ran AH... no go on bombers.  So I went and checked the old settings folder.  I have all of the .cfg files for fighters and gv's and such (mouse, login, oclip, etc.) but when I get around to the bombers, there is none for them?  I have Lanc .hps & .slv files, but now .cfg file.  How can I go about fixing them when I have adone a freash install with the game and they didn't rebuild?  Man I am dumb...

The .slv files are salvo/delay files, the .hps files are head position files.  I expected your problem to be in the .hps files or possibly the .cfg files but it doesn't sound like that helped.  The only .cfg files I have for bombers are the Ki67 and Boston so it's not surprising you don't have .cfg files for the rest.

At this point I'm baffled and feeling your pain. You've done a clean install and that didn't fix it, and you've forced AH to rebuild the cache and settings folders and that still didn't fix it so the settings don't appear to be the problem.  The only other thing I can think of is that you might have left the original HTC folder with all it's stuff on your drive when you reinstalled Aces High which means it may have left the .res files or some other file in place causing the trouble.  If so, copy your HTC folder (again to save your settings and terrains etc) and use the Add Remove Software utility to delete AH, and then delete the original HTC folder and reinstall everything fresh.  This will give you clean versions of the .res files and still allow you to recover your settings files later.  If that dosen't get the bombers working I don't know what would.  It's the best I can offer at this point, just wish it was more positive.

Yeah I talked with AK's Floppy, Epoch and WxMan last night and was told the same thing.  Was tough doing everything JABO style with 20-30 nme planes over the base you wanted to hit.  I am gonna do what you just said and just nuke the HTC folder.  I have all my stuff save anyways on an seperate hard drive, that just-in-case-cause, as I have lost all that crap before and it sucks redoing views and such all over again.  I will keep you informed and thanks for the help!

Well Easy, I just did a freash install after nuking everything and all I placed back in the game was my gunsights, sounds and skin pack.  When I placed my 'settings' back in the game, that is when something went wrong.  So I just left it out and have just been redoing my views and such.  It is not like I fly every plane anyways, maybe 6 or 7 planes total...  Thanks for your help.
