Need new monitor
« on: May 26, 2006, 06:42:12 AM »
My 17" samsung is doing fine, but its a bit out of date.  I guess 5 years old.  Paid 800 bucks for it.  Just bought a tyris 17" for the wifes little office computer for 180 bucks and it blows mine out of the water.  I would like to have hi def capabilities cuz my vid card supports HD output.

Thnx

maybe around 500 bucks

When you say the video card supports HD, I assume you mean it supports 16:9 aspect ratios.  The card will not allow HD (HD or Blu-Ray) DVD's to run at high defination levels.

Your video card is not HDCP complaint, which is required to be able to play HD movies at thier native resolution.

Take a look at the Viewsonic. I just bought a VX2025vm 20.1 widescreen for $350 (newegg). I had a Dell 18" Ultrasharp which worked fine for 3+ yrs. until it went out with a flicker....probably power supply. Fix it later.
Anyway I just needed a decent screen and was hoping AH2 would look good on widescreen format too. It looks even better than I'd hoped!:aok
Happy hunting!
Just remember, keep in mind your video card needs to be capable of supporting a higher resolution (24"or bigger) screen. My ATI Radeon 9500/9700 Pro can handle the bump up to 1680x1050 ok but anything higher I'd have to think upgrade. In your case it looks like your card is newer and would handle it.
