Planes are:

Soviet Union:
Boston III
C-47
HurriIIc
Il-2
La-5FN
M-16, M-3
P-40E
T-34
Yak-9T

Finland & Germany:
109E4, F4, G2, G6
110C4-b, 110G-2
C-47
Ju-87
Ju-88
M-16, M-3
Panzer IVH
Brewster (FM-2)
Hurri1

Terrain: Karelia, settings: capture 20 troops, ack at .25.

Let me know if there are any problems, since I was a bit busy while doing the setup...

Effusive praise be to Panzzer for figuring a way to get this setup in place today; lord knows, I was helpless enough.

A couple of questions to throw out:

Slash has suggested running this for two weeks, with the late-war plane set in the second week.  Yea or nay?

In the past there has been discussion about replacing the FM2 with the F4F.  Worth a try, or no?

Did finland fight along side the germans against Stalin?

I thought finland fought the germans and stalin.

yes.  two weeks of karelia is a bare minimum. why not a few days with early war only, Boston,P40B, 109E and 110C?  just saying.

Two weeks minimum, all feasible and useful planesets absolutely, and why no B-17s?  How are we supposed to divebomb without one?

Just kidding on that last.

Heaven... I'm in heaven,
And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak.
And I seem to find the dogfights that I seek,
When we're flying Finland's lowlands for two weeks.

Heaven... I'm in heaven,
And the cares that hung around me through the week,
Seem to vanish like a gambler's lucky streak,
When we're out there and dog-fighting every week.

Oh, I love to climb a mountain,
And to reach the highest peak.
But it doesn't thrill me half as much
As Finland for two weeks!

Oh, I love to go out fishing
Or to date amongst the sheep.
But I don't enjoy it half as much
As Stukas strafing jeeps.

Fly with me! I want my your six to shoot at.
The flames all about you
Will carry me through to...

Heaven... I'm in heaven,
And my heart beats so that I can hardly speak.
And I seem to find the happiness I seek,
When flying over Finland for two weeks.

I agree.  P40 vs 109E is not a bad matchup.  It would be nice to do the RPS theme here like we have with other setups.  I know we are missing alot of planes but ...........

I vote a definite YES on using the F4F instead of the FM2 as well.

The FM2 doe sseem to be a bit much plane . . .

But I like to save the 109 P-40 matchups for desert/Greece scenarios.

Umm.. I'll leave as it is for today. We'll see about the changes later.

FM2 might be a too-über Brewster, but then the Russian Hurris didn't have quad-Hispanoes and the La5's weren't FN's...

Yeah, if there is one plane I find too uber for that setup it has always been the Hurri IIC.  The FM2 is a decent plane but not really dominant, the IIC can turn with FM2 and out guns everything but some 110s.

I always thought the IIB was a better surrogate.  8 .303s make up some for not having a single Shvak per side.

Map’s pretty cool in some respects, but it is a real frame rate killer, eye candy trumps playability I guess.  I have no problem with any other map, but even with short vis it’s unplayable up in the main section for me.

This isn’t meant to be a whine.  You see, there are a few bases down in the southwest where there is mostly water.  Was hoping a few others with weaker systems will join me down there.  I get lonely when nobody’s shootin’ at me.

I have to agree, this map is a real fps killer.  I will just turn down the visual settings closer to minimum to keep up, but its the only map I have to do that for.  Still, I think its worth it for this map.  It is a reeeally cool map.  :)

ya the frame rates for me were in the teens.  maybe we should move the front lines back over the water for the sake of game play.

Yes. 1941-44.

That's also true. Finland fought against Germany after Oct. 1944 in the Northern Finland.

edit: if frame rates are a problem, A14 (IIRC) should have all axis planes enabled, with 2-3 allied bases (with all allied planes) nearby over the Gulf of Finland.

Not being able to see friendlys outside dar circle, combined with very short dar made it hard to find the fight at times. Wasn’t too bad cause the fight was usually between 13 and 14 (So was the ack wagon).  Fields are so close, got auto puffied twice in a row while climbing over my own base.  What’s that set on?  Did WWII pilots really have to deal with hostile ack over their own airfields? The map ‘looks’ really cool, just has too much......well......too much.
