What about nose art?
« on: May 27, 2006, 11:48:14 AM »
May be cool to be able to add custom nose art.  This way, each player has the set skins, which can't be changed, but a pilot can visually modify the aircraft with a nose art image. The images could be from a "download" type "catalouge" or user created. This would make the aircraft unique to the pilot. Also, for the detail freaks, maybe the kill symbols could be added to the canopy rails, corisponding to the actual kills scored in game....What ya'll think? :huh

Might be a nice compromise between purely custom skins (which I'd still like to see so long as it meets certain criteria) and "historical only" as it is right now. I'd like to see an option for a "generic" skin with only the fuselage markings and roundels.

Don't think the "kills" thing is practical (imagine SHawk's 400+ kills in either his C-Hog or Dora).

For nose art -- seems on the surface to be reasonable.  We have partial custom art already with Squad logos adorning aircraft and vehicles.  Seems it would only be a minor tweak in code to allow each individual to have a simple logo for the front of the fuselage.  Only drawback I can see is the possible effect on storage space and skin download time.  But if the files are relatively small, this shouldn't be a big factor anyway.

Sounds good.  Adding so nose art and squad markings would be nice.  Not a complete custom job just adding some to the default skin maybe. My corsair does look alittle to plain.  Aslong as guys dont try to put nothin bad(curse words, etc) it should work.  AH could just limit how much  u put on i guess.  Im aready thinkin about what to do for my corsair.

for the kills marking, instead of it having your total kills of the month, you could make it so it only has the most kills you have landed in one sortie for that month. I rarely ever see somebody land with more than 20 in a plane, and they fit that many on the real planes so i think it could work

Could just record kills up to a certain point (like, 35-40 or so). Also, what markings would be used to show kills? Hash marks? Little Japanese or German flags?

i hope htc really thinks about this, they can just give u a the default skin and let u add to it.  Just give u the nose and the tail to add to.  A whole custom job would be better but that might have certain problems in itself.  People migt get out of hand with colors but i dont think thats a problem, i shot down a orange nik the other day, i dont think u could get worst then that.

I believe it's been discussed before.  The main problem that i see is storage, if only you saw it (to be "different) it might not be so taxing, but i'm not sure.  If it was made for everypone to see I think it might use up quite a bit of storage, even at only a few KB, 500 can eat up storage quickly.

i hope they can do it.  To add stuff to the nose and tail should be that bad, Im pretty surer aces high could set it up in a way where it works.  I understand that the games is supposed to be historically accurate but when im chasing a spitfire with a corsair it kinda takes away from the historical part.  if that happens im pretty sure they can let us mess with the skins. but like nirvana said its about memory.
