Schumacher took the provisional pole lap in the final 20 minute phase of qualifying but lost the back end of his 248 F1 in the penultimate turn. Schumacher did not make the corner and effectively ended the session there and then with his Ferrari stranded on track.
Alfonso claimed that Schumacher’s incident in the closing seconds of qualifying ended his chance at a run at the top position.

After hours of consideration, It has emerged that the race Stewards simply do not believe Michael Schumacher’s explanation that it was a mere accident and have placed him at the back of the grid for tomorrow’s race.

Michael Schumacher has been stripped of his Pole position at Monaco and will start the race from the back of the grid.

FU Stewards!  :furious

Seems that the situation was up for interpretation.  At one point, even Alonso shrugged his shoulders and said these things happen.

The stewards could have put MS back just a few slots and there would still be a story tomorrow.

Schumacher has done many dirty tricks on his career and for a change he has to pay the price.

Should've been just a 10 place penalty...especially if it took 24hrs to make a decision which means it's obviously not an open and shut case...either way the final qual session fuel rules should be changed so they don't just trundle around for most of it burning off fuel - an all out sprint from the start should be the way ~ or the last 10 have a 3-5 lap shoot out each

So Schumacher starts last and ends up 5th.  I wonder what would have happened if they penalized him the same as they did Fisichella, and MS started in say 6th or 7th?

Maybe we could have seen the 2 best F1 drivers head to head on the street.

I enjoyed that race, but for the first time ever i actually didnt enoy that Kimis car broke down... he deserved a shot at taking Alfonso. Cool dude, went straight to "his" yatch without going back to his team. :)

Not according to the points standings, and according to lap times, it was MS, Kimi, then Alonso.
