How about fixing the 38
« on: May 27, 2006, 11:31:43 PM »
enough said, your patch introduced over 2 months ago created the problem, how about fixing it ? pretty sad it has taken this long to remedy.
How about a better question do you intend to?

Hey the 109-style instability took many many years before they fixed it (lol). Don't hold your breath on P-38 flaps :)

I think they're all busy. And I think that's a good sign. It probably means they're working on Combat Theater for the convention (to show them something). I can stand P-38 flaps being bugged at "landing" settings if it means they're working on better things. That's my outlook, anyway.

Dropping flaps is like popping a drag chute now. Ive gone full throttle with flaps out and couldn't go any faster than 125mph.

It is only the final stage of the flaps.  Just avoid using that.

Heck, it isn't even a combat setting.

Flaps as they currently stand on the P38......

Notches 1 and 2: Use them (P38 seems to be capable of more aggresive moves with just first two notches now than before they edited the FM).

Notch 3: Use for short durations only during a fight (top of loop etc.).

Notch 4: Use only in case of landing or an emergency (e.g.: as a last ditch attempt to create an overshoot).

Notch 5: NEVER EVER USE IT.

Seriously! Fifth notch shuldnt be used even on landing cause it acts like a drag chute. I dont even use it in a fight to slow down cause you probably wont recover from the E loss in time to do anything after use and whatever added lift is produced is totally overcome by the lift decrasing with speed dropping.

Before the patch, I was able to outmove hogs, 51s, la7s, spits, all the way down the line.  Only real planes that couldnt out turn was hurri, zeke, and the spit 8.

Now after the patch, 38 has trouble moving with anything.  It gets outturned by 51s, spits, la7s, etc.

This has made me change my flying style around and not be as agressive.

This flap bugs encourage 38 drivers to fly more BnZ instead of TnB.  Before patch I was mostly TnB now I have to lean more to BnZ.

Souless, I ONLY fly the P38G, J and L. There IS a bug with the P38 flaps 5th NOTCH ONLY where the last notch causes a unjustly massive increase in drag. Not really much of a problem and I dont even notice it anymore. Take it you dont usually have knifefights with Spits and Zekes, cause thats where this bug really kicks. Due to the bug I have had to evolve and learn some new tricks with the old fork tailed (devil) dog....

In some other thread I have seen a link to a thread in which HTC has acknowledged that it IS a bug. Would the Original poster be kind enough to repost the link here?

Hazard.... I am well aware of what notch of flaps has the  bug ty.
Simply put the FM has changed dramatically on the 38. A look at the recent turn radius tests pre patch and post patch will confirm that it isnt the plane it was.
If this is the way they want it so be it. Would I like to see it returned to the way it was? sure i would
I think most people are partial to a certain plane and anything that makes it better they want it.
I would like to see it returned to its older form the fact remains it behaves much differently now.
Apologies to HTC for beating this horse

What?  Your 16,000lb airplane won't dance around like a 5,000lb airplane anymore?

No Souless, I am very sorry if my english is miserable enough to have been misunderstood. I do not want the P38 RETURNED to the way it WAS. Heck, I like it better now than before. I think it has become more agile and manoeverable now than before (with lesser flap settings). Can definitely dive better (IMHO) and has just a tad more roll authority at low speeds.....(I maybe wrong about that, just a personal feeling since I usually fly the G variant). What I was talking about was that the 5th notch bug and nothing else.

No, I think it dances like a 5,500lb plane now.
