The DA then and now

OK this probably should be in the (wishlist) forum but I'm hoping it will generate more of a response in here.

HiTech can we please get the kill shooter turned back off in the DA??? I realize that awhile back there was a problem with some of the younger players doing some things that were against the "understood" rules of the DA and were ruining the gameplay in there for allot of people, but that arena is never used anymore.

When I first started playing there was always a bunch of people in there having a good time. The "rules" were understood.

1. You give a check six and wait for a check six before engaging.

2. No vulching on the runways (unless you were good friends with the poor guy you were vulching)

3. You disengaged if asked by anouther pilot, due to training or squad functions going on.

That was pretty much it, and for the most part people followed those few simple rules.

A small handfull of people ignored those rules but the masses are suffering for it now. I know I miss going in there with a bunch of my squadies and just beating the crap out of each other for fun. Every man for himself but we're all on the same side and same VOX talking crap and having a good old time. The DA was the place to hang out.

Not anymore. Please HiTech...turn killshooter off. Let the DA go back to the way it was. If someone breaks the rules, punish the one not the many.

Thanks for reading and I'll see all those that are going to the Con the end of June. Good Hunting to all.

The problem is that you go there and can't find any one. You can only fight 1 guy and that is by pointment only.

Imagin that , It is being used as intended.

The DA then and now

                       NOOBS TALE OF THE D.A

True the D.A was not used as it was intended most of the time, and by most of the people that went in.  There were many a times I admit i got so frustrated and furious at people fighting in the D.A and logged off wondering why HT would not post the rules.  Yet I still kept coming back and logging on till I finally got hooked on AH.

Looking back on it now D.A was the reason I got interested in AH. Guess it still holds true (or did) for most of new people that joined the community.  Seeing that there were increasingly large numbers of NEW people (that numbers guy, certain jra cough cough ) that did not know or cared about the rules in the D.A.  The effect was a lot of people complained about the intent and disorder the D.A was moving towards.

This was back in the day’s when I didn’t know which button to press to talk, type or give check 6’s.  The M.A for me was a place where flying for 6 to 10 min for a fight only to get shot down was extremely mind numbing game play till I discovered D.A.  Taking off the runway and finding a fight was something exciting and new.  As there were no rules posted I thought shooting down what ever you can hit was fair game, until I got schooled (in other words grounded) by couple of regular flyers, learned how to message begged them to stop and learned that the D.A stands for dueling Arena. Using the vox  for help on general game play or fight maneuvers got me more response then it did in the M.A.  The T.A helped a bit but guess due to the timings of my log there were 1 or 0 players in there.  For me this is where i meet the members of 52kiwi and went on to fly in the M.A with a Squad.  After a while D.A became an alternative when it felt like the M.A got to be a never-ending war, just the flights were too long or the squad was not on or just any other reason you can think off not to fly.  I’ am sure everyone has felt the same at one point or the other.

It was in part D.A had become more then just a Duel Arena.  Cant say about the others I would go in there for a quick fights or the adrenalin rush that comes after 2 to 3 noobs (which became obvious as they could not hit you) that chased you only to get shot down, and don’t tell me it is not fun.  Generally I would help people that were new, because of me going though the same thing and knows how complicated thing seems when your fly for the first few times. It was sometimes surprising seeing people screaming their heads off to one another for not following the rules.  They would generally be the numbers guy or a kid or someone like me just a kid at heart.

For those people who really wanted to duel 1 on 1 could always go to another airfield or change countries, fly to a different location.  Take their whole squad to a different location change countries and what not.  Turning on the KS has just turned it into another mini M.A. My point being is D.A turning into something it was not intended for is it really that bad a thing for the community of AH. Physics tells that is no such thing as 100% perfection every time and always again and again there will always be a variance. People will always complain about one thing or the other, the fact is there really was an alternative to the M.A and for people that really wanted to duel 1 on1 doesn’t exist anymore.  The discussion of how the DA should be, would be and was is all done with this just my opinion and experiences of the D.A.

all I can say is....waahhh.

DA was never meant to be a FFA furball arena. It was meant to be a Duelling arena. Just that.

Nothing in settings stops you from doing what you want to do, only the icon colour is changed.

It's a dueling arena, not a 2 weeker whiney FFA room.

blunt, yet succinct. works for me.

cheers,

The settings do stop the type of flying I discussed in my post. My squadies and I used to go there allot and fly "last man standing" missions to improve our skills. Gunnery, Situational Awareness, and basic ACM. That can't be done anymore as a group. There is no way for 15-20 guys to up and fight as individuals against the rest of the squad. Sure we can split the squad and engage in team fights but it's not as much fun. FUN is what the game is about right?? If killshooter was turned off the DA would be used much more than it is now.

Gee..aNOTHER DA thread.....like we didn't know about this. Actually, perhaps in next patch HT take a few sectors and put the bases like 5-10 miles apart--- I could never get used to shooting at green icons anyhow.

i would think fighting with 2 teams would be better for a squad. you still use ACM, SA, and gunnery, and also maybe you learn to work together better.

there have been quite a few posts on this, and HTC has weighed in saying the DA is just that.  in theory it could still be used as a FFA, there are 2 sides, just you have to fly for maybe 1-2 mins.  though the idea of 2 sides having equal advantages seems a bit strange in the DA.

either way HTC wants it a certain way, and it's the way it is now, and that is all that counts.  i'm sure he was getting tired of the posts/complaints about the vulching, and other "gamey" things that were going on in there every single day/night.  some nights it was just a vulch fest.  one guy vulches someone, next everyone is circling the field making sure that guy can't get up.  guys floating an picking in a 262, people giving you "check 6" 400 of your six.  sometimes it was being used as a DA by respectable players, but you know, a few bad apples..........
