HTC Request! Beta Terrain in DA!
« on: May 30, 2006, 10:35:09 PM »
Please put the AH Beta Terrain in the DA if it is possible.

I think more of us will be using the DA not for dueling...but as a secondary arena...maybe the MA for some of us.

Is the backup MA still there?

I think the DA should stay as it is (terrain wise), for duels.

Schatzi.......you can do the same thing with the original Beta Terrain.

We would have a more varied landscape in the Beta.  By the way anyone dueling in the MA will not be interupted by us.

Schatzi...Bases were at different alts in Beta Terrain.  Mountains, Valleys etc. many different landscapes to fight in and above.  As Toad said in an earlier Post all we have in the DA now are Mesas at different altitudes.
Having the Beta Terrain for dueling will not hurt a thing.  Rules of engagement can just as easily be set upon in the Beta Terrain as it is now with the DA Terrain.  Just more variety of landscapes using the Beta Terrain.

I think i half misread, half misinterpreted your post. I apologize for that.

Variety, im all for that.

Theres one problem i see with old terrains though. AFAIK they have to be brought up to standard of AH2, ie rebuild (more or less). Not sure if that will/can be done.

Can the Beta Terrain be used offline? If yes, would you mind sending me a copy of it? (i think you have my email, if not ill PM you)

Thanks, Schatzi

PS: "Duelling" in the MA can be fun. Not always easy to keep it 1 vs 1 though. After a while single plane DAR usually attracts other people.

My question is, what is changing the DA going to bring to the table that you couldn't have just by going into the backup MA?

I read all the posts where the idea came up & it seems more like a yearning to get back old times & old fights to me. That's not a bad thing, especially if you had fun then & aren't now & just want to get a little of that back.

 But the question still remains.

I haven't looked at the map in the BUMA; what's playing in there?

The DA automatically has very good field spacing for fast fights..could be a touch closer but it beats heck out of all but two MA maps.

And there' the bonus that we can move to the 6K fields  which will mean you can takeoff and not have to climb at all. So, faster to the fight, even.

But I'd still love to see the old Beta Terrain.

Hey, the Doughnut map is up in the BUMA, the one with the three airfields in the center around the lake...Fightertown.

This probably IS a better choice than the DA. Fields are 5K, sloping down to the lake.

I suggest we move this to the BUMA as long as Doughnut is up in there.

No on  the DA: People seem to be under the impression that changing an arena is easier that creating a new one. That is not the case. So what your realy asking is please create a new arena with the old beta terrain. And creating new arenas is realy fairly simple.

The backup arean is there for a purpose. Incase we have a major failor in the main.

2ndly and more importlying your asking please create more arenas tailored to more individual taste.

While we do this with some segments, i.e. AvA and the upcoming CT. It is not somthing we do unless we belive it will broden our apeal, and not simply sub divide the people we already apeal to. The topic of arena format changing or adding new arenas with differt formats, is by no means a simple one. It quite often has large unexpected effects.  So while I understand your request for a different style of play, Im not just blindly choosing not to grant it.

HT, would it be possible to leave the Doughnut map up in the BUMA then?

I think that would be a major improvement. It is without a doubt the best "normal rotation" map for folks that just want to fight.

Secondly, how large a following would it have to attract until we "qualified" for an arena of our own like the "A v A"? I'm curious as to their average player count during USA primetime; if we exceeded that, could we get "special interest group" status as well?

Not trolling you...I'm seriously asking.

For now, I'd just be very thankful if you'd leave Fightertown up in the BUMA. We can use that, can't we?

HT, a thought....

I'm not a card carrying furballer, but I do like a good fight. With many of the smaller maps, I often find myself spending lots of time in the tower looking for a fun place to fight -- and it can be pretty hard in prime time now, with hundreds of fliers packed into relatively few contact points. Fights turn into hordes in just minutes, since with these numbers its very hard to reverse local dominance once established.

SO if you dont want to be part of a locust/pirhana migration either as predator or as prey, it can be tough. When I cant find a good spot, I usually log or go to H2H. From what I've read and seen, I'm not alone.

But yeah, these ramblings actually had a point:

If the backup MA were left as donut, then wouldnt there be both a "numbers pressure valve" for maps designed 1000 subscribers ago, AND an INCREASE in appeal for the fight guys?

In short, wouldnt both styles benefit?

Most nights they don't break double digits in there and you give them their own self-managed arena.

Thanks, amigo. That hurts.
