Blue P47N #2 - 19FS/318FG "Red E Ruth"
« on: June 04, 2006, 12:08:29 AM »
I'm 90% done with this... There's a black oval above the step plate and for the life of me I can't make out what it says. I only have a low-res reference I snagged off the 'Net. If anybody knows the words I can guesstimate where they go fairly well, I just can't tell WHICH words to use!

As mentioned in the other post, I'm trying something different with both of these as to how I do rivets. I think I like this one a bit better, but I'll let you all be the judge :)

On a related note, does anybody have any clue what that oval is supposed to say?

EDIT: Two things I now about already: The prop hub should be blue, and the inside of the cowling stops blue and goes white. Those are on the to-do list.

Can only think of two, um, not faults just personel taste -

1) Metal looks flat.

2)
a)Try doing the rivets with the pen tool, they come out already partially blurred.
b) Then copy that layer and gaussian blur it about 0.5.
c) Copy original layer again, negative image to get it white, then blur it also.

Rivets look a lot more subtle.

As I said just personal taste.

1) okely-dokely! Still getting the hang of this. In the skin file it looks good. In the game it doesn't. Have to really blow the heck out of the skin to get it to look "normal" in-game

2) I've thought of that. I debated it. I've seen other skins with it. I decided against it because you end up with a single pixel and a single pixel around it, basically a 9x9 grid, that almost looks like a "+" sign. 1 pixel vs 9 pixels, I decided 1 pixel was more realistic. For bolts I probably should have done that, though. If it's to the point that they catch your eye and stand out, I'll tweak them and play around a bit, see what I can do.

P.S. is it just me, or is it hard to take good screenshots of BMF planes? I mean on the one hand if you take a pic that shows the sun glare reflection, you get the hot spot but you wash out all the other detail. If you get a shot without the sun glare you show the detail but you lose a lot without the proper lighting...

Rather frustrating.

Its hard, do it in the air allows more camera movement.

More tweaking. Still no luck on the black oval contents. I'm leaving that as-is for the moment.

Sorry for posting same thing twice, but in case you didn't see my comment for the other "Blue".

Very nice. Underside could use some oil and hydraulic fluid leaks, however. Dan posted a very nice picture of this kind of weathering, about 2/3 down in this post: http://www.hitechcreations.com/foru...threadid=158635

I found out what the black oval says. It says "Republic Aircraft Corporation", "Employee", "War Bond Plane", "81". With that I was able to re-create the label and finish things up.

These are the "done" product. If you see any major problems or even minor ones this would be the time. I'm going to let both this and the other 47N sit a bit to make sure I don't rush into things and fail to notice an obvious error. Letting skins sit for a week is probably the best thing you can do before submitting them.

One thing: I don't know of the 19FS patch should go on both sides or not (the circle with stars and a **** in the middle).

Kev helped me out a bit with some labels and such. They're a minor point, but I personally feel they add a lot to a skin.

EDIT: I'm done, I think. I'll let both these "Blue Ns" sit a bit in case something comes to me or somebody has any feedback.
