Reinstate the draft!
« on: June 05, 2006, 01:16:29 AM »
How about no, sorry if this is a repost:

On February 14, 2006, Congressman Charles Rangel (Democrat - NY) introduced a bill (Universal National Service Act of 2006 - HR 4752 IH) aiming at drafting everyone - men and women alike - from the ages of 18 to 42 into the military for a minimum period of 2 years.

Or to quote the bill: "To provide for the common defense by requiring all persons in the United States, including women, between the ages of 18 and 42 to perform a period of military service or a period of civilian service in furtherance of the national defense and homeland security, and for other purposes."

The House is to convene on June 6 (06/06/06] to debate and possibly adopt this bill, that is, unless a vast public outcry succeeds in derailing this insanity, which you can do by writing a letter of protest to your congress person through

No. I dont want to serve next to a bunch of people who dont want to be there. The quality of our military would take a drastic nose dive.

Yea it is a repost, and no, it'll never happen.  Unless the bill makes provision for the exclusion of the wealthy elite's kids, it will fail by a large margin.

If the draft was re-instated..

Yes I would end up enlisting so that I may choose my destiny..

Untill then...

I'm very happy not being in the military.

I sent 2 emails to "Colorado Representatives" stating that the vast majority of the population wouldn't take kindly to  it.  From those who are already in (BlueJ) and those who aren't (Hawklore).  Send away your e-mails to them and let them have a piece o' your mind.

I doubt that this would ever pass, but being 33 and married with a kid, I'd sign up.

I'd rather they up the enlistment age to 50

I'd sign up tomorrow.

Well hell its still early.
I'd sign up today

Personally I think they should do away with the age limit.
It should be everyones right to join the military reguardless of age.

that being said. a Draft. Unless it was pretty much unanimously voted in would be political suicide for whoever voted for it.

I say unanimously because if everyone voted for it. Then there wouldnt be many left to vote against come election time

Geesh,

Along with all the 18 year old problems I have to deal with as an instructor I'd have geriatric ones as well.  ;)

No 'Manditory Military' draft... but a National Service Manditory Draft. Change the benefits for serving. You can opt for Military instead of Non-Military service.. for more pay and better post-service education grants. Fer crissakes, DECENT pay for those that serve.

....and do it Heinleins way. No service; no vote. If you do serve and stay in 10 or more years; no taxes.

You miserable little cretins enjoy the fruits of the sacrafices of your forebears.. and without any vested interest in the process the latest generations have lead to a national decline in rights, the political process and citizen morality. More people voting in 'Idol' than national elections.. what a freakin sick mess this is turning into. The 'free lunch' should end.

Serve. Or be a second class citizen.
The price of Freedom is the willingness to do sudden battle, anywhere, any time and with utter recklessness...

...at home, or abroad.

i dont think a draft would solve any of the problems facing our military.. yea, we are streched thin right now but we are making it happen.  I wouldnt want to deal with a drafted soldier that will have a negative attitude and would want nothing more than to be kicked out for dicipline problems "pattern of misconduct"... bad enough we are dealing with those who join strictly for the college money (and they state that fact often)... i hear enough crying about going to the field and deploying, heck they think the army is a 9 to 5 job.. ha ha..

For as wasteful as the military is with human lives, you want everyone to have to serve?

In times of national emergency, enough people will join the military voluntarily to protect the country.

Great, have a generation of citizens that got thier start in the working world learning all those great lessons in inefficientcy that only the silly service can teach.  What's more hurt the economy by taxing the citizens more to pay for these government make-work projects.

One of those fruits is freedom, and you want take that freedom away from people just as they reach an age where they can participate in the process, great lesson there.  Communism isn't going to help any country.
